Hi people,
I have just installed Nero5 on my laptop, but it wont let me write a cd because it says this version of nero5 will only work with the drive it was supplied with.

So what am I surpose to do? it is an original copy so why wont it let me?

Perhaps you should try to update your version5 to a newer one off the Nero site.

My BF says that certain versions of Nero will only work with the firmware on the originally supplied drive (and it's down to the brand of the CD drive apparently). It won't let you update it to a different drive off the site either I'm afraid.

There are plenty of free burning programs that will do the job for you without you having to buy another copy of Nero- he says that he'll post the links for some of them when he's at work tomorrow.

Yeah you'd need to get the retail copy or OEM equivilant for it to work with any old drive, I guess the cds they give away for free with burners only work with that particular one. Which kinda makes it cheaper to just buy a new drive and get the free software these days ;)

(or use one of the many free ones)

I had so much trouble with the later versions of OEM Nero that came with a CD Drive I bought that I binned it and went with an aletrnative.

Fortunately the new machines I bought last year have burning sofwtare supplied, that seems pretty good, for which I am EVER so gratfeul.
