View Full Version : Ronaldo gets Bronze Boot scottishdude 17-05-2007, 08:53 Hey ANGELUS, any comments on the "World's Greatest Player" getting the "Bronze Boot" this season? :hihi: SimpyTimpy 28-05-2007, 03:57 I'll happily comment. He's a midfielder, and has set a record for midfield goals in the Premiership. plekhanov 28-05-2007, 07:45 Hey ANGELUS, any comments on the "World's Greatest Player" getting the "Bronze Boot" this season? :hihi: I expect it will look very nice next to his championship medal and multiple player of the year awards. scottishdude 28-05-2007, 08:32 Great players make a difference to a team. If he was that "Great" Man Utd would not have lost 3-0 to Milan in the 2nd leg, Lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA cup and lost 1-0 to West Ham in the last game of the season. In all 3 of the above mentioned games he was noticeably not great. Chelsea lost the Premiership because they drew too many games, especially during the Xmas period. Man Utd actually lost more games during the season. plekhanov 28-05-2007, 08:36 Great players make a difference to a team. Right so your argument is that great players never have off games and their teams win every game including ones where they only come on as a sub  scottishdude 28-05-2007, 08:56 OK he came on as a sub in W Ham game but the other 2 games involved cups and great players make a difference in these type of games. Henry is a Great player, Buffon is a Great player, Kakka is a great player, Ronaldo is a Good player who sometimes cheats and gets players sent off or do you have a short memory? Henry is a Great player, Buffon is a Great player, Kakka is a great player, All the players you mention have had games where they failed to set the world alight, Henry in particular is notorious for going missing in big European games why is it you still call him a great player? Ronaldo had a fantastic season in which he put in numerous match winning performances for his team and was a key player in winning the league. In contrast Kakka's team finished 4th 36 points off the top of Serie A so there were obviously many games in which he failed to 'make a difference to a team'. Yet you see fit to call him a 'great player' but for some reason United's not winning two games means Ronaldo isn't 'great' Ronaldo is a Good player who sometimes cheats and gets players sent off or do you have a short memory? ( summer of 2006 ) Yes clearly it was Ronaldo winking not the ref seeing Rooney stamping on someones testicles which got him sent off :loopy: Any way even if he had got Rooney sent off why would this mean he isn't a great player? Maradona obviously cheated are you gonna say he wasn't a great player now? plekhanov 28-05-2007, 09:21 Kakka didn't do much the champions league final. He can't have done that much in the league either with Milan a huge 36pts behind Inter. scottishdude 28-05-2007, 09:53 Man Utd didn't start the season with minus 8 points. I initially started this thread to wind up ANGELUS. Personally I don't think Ronaldo is one of the World's Greats, but that is my opinion. His fancy footwork doesn't really do anything and a lot of his goals are poached. He doesn't go past players like Kakka does and doesn't have the professionalism of players like Zola and Nedved. Basically he is a spoilt brat who throws a wobbly when he doesn't get his own way or gets beat. This is my last comment on the "boy". Guderian 28-05-2007, 10:03 Does anyone sense some slight bitterness here??!!! JFKvsNixon 28-05-2007, 10:18 Does anyone sense some slight bitterness here??!!! He'll get over it, I did. I just want Robben to play a full season. plekhanov 28-05-2007, 10:32 Man Utd didn't start the season with minus 8 points. So? If you discount the 8 point penalty Kakka's team still finished 28 points behind Inter so by your criteria Kakka can't be a great player as his team failed to win lots of games. It's like the last season didn't happen in your mind, Ronaldo used to be lacking in end product this season he had it in abundance and turned many matches for United, such as this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXkc9JIOTHY). This is my last comment on the "boy". You feel you've embarrassed yourself enough then? LFCMadPaul 28-05-2007, 10:54 When Ronaldo initially entered the English Premiership he was infact a 'boy'. He lacked, as Pleck has stated', any end product and his tricks and step over's were making him look silly every time he 'fell over'. Last season we saw flashes of what the 'boy' was capable of and some thought that maybe he could turn out to be a decent player. Then came the world cup where he did himself absolutely no favours what so ever. Then came this season! Faced with hatred from rival fans and alot of patching up to do with some club team mates, he has infact 'catagorically' turned from a 'boy' into a man. He has been nothing short of amazing! and thoroughly deserves his winning of the player of the year. I was almost hoping he would depart Man Utd as he is such an advantage for them but that rumour now seems to have subsided. C Ronaldo can not any more be described as a boy, he can only be described as one of the best players in the world! plekhanov 28-05-2007, 12:47 He'll get over it, I did. I just want Robben to play a full season. And I'd like Saha to do the same, can't see either doing so though. LFCMadPaul 28-05-2007, 13:04 And I'd like Saha to do the same, can't see either doing so though. You can also add Harry Kewell to this list of extremely talanted 'crocks'. All have so much talant yet fail to live up to it due to either long term or irritatingly niggly little injuries! Robbie Loving 28-05-2007, 14:55 You can also add Harry Kewell to this list of extremely talanted 'crocks'. Kewell is no match to Robben I'm afraid. A fully fit Robben would be on par with Ronaldo, providing he sorted out his consistency in performances. Anyways, Ronaldo is a fantastic player and deserves a lot of credit for Man Utd winning the title, as they wouldn't have done it with out him. Perhaps he does sometimes not perform in the bigger games, but every player has off days. And some players are given more attention by opposition teams. Ronaldo is a fabulously talented winger who is matched by Robben, with their pace and skill to go past people. LFCMadPaul 28-05-2007, 16:41 Kewell is no match to Robben I'm afraid.. Many would disagree! When Kewell was at Leeds he was infact one of the most sought after players at that time. Since moving to Liverpool he has consistently been dogged by injury after injury. A fully fit Robben would be on par with Ronaldo, providing he sorted out his consistency in performances.. But that is just it. Robben isn't consistent, hence why he is nowhere near the level of Ronaldo. You couldn't even name Robben in the top 10 players in the premeirship going on his form since he came here! Anyways, Ronaldo is a fantastic player and deserves a lot of credit for Man Utd winning the title, as they wouldn't have done it with out him. Perhaps he does sometimes not perform in the bigger games, but every player has off days. And some players are given more attention by opposition teams. Agreed, as i've stated in a previous post!! plekhanov 28-05-2007, 16:53 Kewell is good but he hasn't got the sheer pace of Robben or Ronaldo which makes him less dangerous, of course most of the time Robben has all the pace of a corner flag. SimpyTimpy 30-05-2007, 00:29 Kewell's awesome. Problem is, everytime he plays he manages to hurt himself lol. |
