Just to warn anyone with a pond in Stannington please ensure you cover your ponds with netting. This morning I found a heron in our garden at the side of our pond at first i thought he had managed to get in despite covering it but pond water very mirky due to rain so could not see all the fish. We have since seen most of the fish just cannot see ghost carp but hope that is because of water.

When i lived at home on the Isle of Wight we had Harry the heron pop by daily so much so my grandfather brought him fish scraps from the market , so he never looked in the pond again !!! he quite liked his bowl which said dog on it!!!

That's a lovely and alternative solution to the 'heron problem' teeny! I wonder if your garden would become a hangout for herons if it were done on a regular basis somewhere that the population was bigger?

There is a heron sanctury on the Isle of Wight and Harry came for over 5 years and never brought any friends lol he would even stand next to my grandad almost as if he was talking too him , and one day he just stopped coming
