Ex-Owl loanee, Leon Best, has just scored a remarkable own goal to put Derby ahead on aggregate and just 17 mins away from a Wembley play-off final.
Best's blushes are spared two minutes from time as substitute, Rasiak, makes it 4-4 on aggregate. It's certainly silenced the feisty Derby manager.
SS1 Extra-time to be played. I'm rooting for Saints because George Burley's teams play some lovely football and Southampton are no exception, also suffering from having five regular players injured at such a crucial time.

Best's blushes haven't been spared. Derby won 4-3 on penalties, and Best missed his spot kick. :hihi:

Tell me about it! I was there supporting Southampton (a bit gutted but I'll be alright). Best had a total nightmare of a game. I've been trying and trying but I still can't work out what it was that made George Burley think it was a good idea to let him take the first Pen when all 32000 fans in the ground just knew he wasn't going to score.

Didn't you just know! I don't know why Rasiak wasn't on the field much earlier to replace Best. Best, though, is not the sole player to blame, take for example Pele (of all names) who had grabbed hold of a Derby shirt as if he was taking the dog for a walk - giving away a needless penalty/goal in the first-leg.
Players like this must drive a manager to distraction. I think Burley could have a future as a Premiership manager - his style is good on the eye. Not the first manager to suffer because of end of season injuries etc. although I think justice is done when the team with the greatest number of points wins the play-offs.

Isn't there a stigma attached to Burley, after the manner in which he left both Derby and Hearts? I understand there were rumours about his drinking.......

I think Burley planned to replace Best with Bradley Wright-Phillips for extra time, but Chris Makin got injured and he was forced to use his last substitution.
