I have just seen this on a riding forum I'm a member of about a stolen pony in Doncaster. Obviously, this not being a million miles away, there is a chance the poor little mite is around somewhere, please keep eyes peeled.

Stolen 12.05.2007 from field at Micklebring, Doncaster: -

POLO, a black Miniature Shetland colt only 2 weeks old. Pony has two wall eyes. Height between 18/24” tall. Not weaned and will need a lactating broodmare. Taken from mother who is now fretting, loosing weight and still lactating. Believed handled over fence into waiting vehicle.

No photograph available.

CRIME REF A/65746/2007
please repost this on any other horsey forums, especially any local ones.

That's disgusting  how can people do that... a 2 week old pony?!

I hope he's found before it's too late :(

Poor wee thing- and I bet his mum's in a dreadful state too. I sincerely hope that the idiots who think that this is acceptable are prosecuted to the best ability of the law.

regardless of what happens to the ogres that did this, I hope that someone has found him and given him the care he needs.

Just wanted to add for those that may not know

colt=unastrated male
wall eyed=white showing in eyes around edges, or sometimes blue eyed (I assume they would have said if blue eyed)

not pointing the finger but there are a lot of travellers in doncaster that deal in ponys
they go to holmfirth cattle market every sunday with lots of horses some that should be taken off them dont know if you want to post that on the riding forum but id go have a look it could be the owners lucky day
hope all ends well and the pony is returned

To be honest, I don't think it would be anyone who knows anything about horsses, as a foal that young will be lucky to haev survived even this long without its mother.

I was thinking the same!. the travellers near the industrial estate by the sewerage works have loads of horses on there (sorry, not sure what the area is)

Lets not start accusing people until we know. Just be careful.

I have suggested Holmfirth market as a place to look, however he may have ended up there. Will check back for news, although if none by now I fear it wil be too late for the little guy

Fingers crossed for the foal...how stupid and cruel are some people:mad:

I had a text for this from South Yorkshire Horsewatch yesterday.

I doubt this foal, if still alive, will be at a market without a mare. It will probably be sold privately, if the theives are experienced and have a mare needing to feed.

If they are not experienced thieves then the poor little man will not survive.

Hi Saffron,

Do you know if Joanne Kennedy (SY Police Equine Liason officer) is aware of this as I have not had a call about it?

If not please contact her and she will relay the message via South Yorks Horsewatch members in the area to keep a look out.

Mrs Joanne Kennedy 0114 2964152

cheers

Gemima.
