Does anyone take away used computers and monitors? My colleagues and myself have over 20? Preferably free.

Good luck! It seems old computer stuff is harder to get rid of than nuclear waste :D

I recently had a clear out of all my kit and despite some of it being pretty decent it took me some time to shift it, and it was free to good homes.

Put it on the for sale bit on here for 20 pound no offers

I would make sure that the drives are completely wiped first before handing them over to anyone - it is far too easy to recover personal data from hard drives, floppies, usb sticks etc. these days.

PM me if you need any further detail as I am a computer forensic examiner and you need to format a device several times before all of the data has been correctly overwritten. :thumbsup:

I often find that in addition to a format specific software for wiping drives is a good way to go about it. There are many titles that meet and go beyond government requirements for secure wiping of hard disks.

You could try Access space on Sidney St next to Tthe yorkshire Art Space at Persistence works and opposite the Rutland Pub. They accept computers for recycling though there is a small charge for monitors to cover disposal if they can not be used. The computers once recycled are used for creative and learning projects.
