View Full Version : Next AWG meeting.
Moonbird 13-05-2007, 22:54 It's been ages since the last one so i would like to nominate thursday the 17th of may for the next meeting.
I would also like to invite anyone involved in greyhound rescue to this meeting as i think it is something particularly worthy of addressing.
Anyone who can make it at the rising sun nethergreen at 7.30pm will be made most welcome.
Please add to the thread if you are interested and can make the date :)
carpetviper 14-05-2007, 08:52 Im going to make a real push to get to this one after missing the last two I dont think I have anything planned.
Lindseyw 14-05-2007, 08:59 GL Note: Can we please rememember this is not SF AWG - & is not endorsed or approved in any way by The Sheffield Forum.
Not wanting to be a misery - I just don't want to get squished by Admin !!
beansforyou 14-05-2007, 09:24 Hi,
it might be a good idea to explain what Sf AWG stands for, and what the meeting is about? :)
carpetviper 14-05-2007, 09:51 AWG - stands for animal welfare group.
We are a group of people who stand up and want to make a difference to the lives of animals and we use whatever skills we have and try to apply them to help shelters and rescues. Some us have links to shelters and charities and some people foster and rehome.
I've edited the title, as Lindseyw says, it's not us being party poopers but we have been advised by admin that SF can't endorse this (for legal reasons).
I'll make it to one of these meetings one day

I think this group sounds amazing and its fantastic that people are dedicating their prescious free time to such a worthy cause. How long has this group been set up?
Maybe if you list just a few of the things you've acheived since creating this group then that might inspire more people to take part or at least donate money / advice / time etc.
:)
When I was at university I joined a very similar sort of group but all that took place was a bunch of students talking about animal welfare but not actually doing anything :loopy:
Good luck to you all
If any shelters/charities want to make use of my skills they are more than welcome to contact me (www.dafoot.co.uk -> contact).
I can help with websites (eg. adding CMS functionality) and photography (nice pics might help in rehoming?).
baileys_mum 14-05-2007, 14:59 I'm willing to come, but as always its the transport issue

Hi Honestjoe, we are a small group that began in febuary this year see this thread http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=182038
My original intention was and still is to raise awareness on the plight of small animal rescues, this is in an educational way and also in practical ways, there is a small group of us who get together regualrly, we try to think of an area of interest and then ask for people involved in that area of rescue to come and talk to us about what they do and what help they need, then we get together to see what we can do to help... be it fund raising or other support.
What we really need is for people to join us and most of all would welcome rescue people to come and tell us about what they do and what help they need, it is suprising what you can do if you try :)

Thats brilliant dafoot and very useful, sometimes things like that take up extra time that a rescue just does not have

Sory to hear you are suffering carpetviper- I've been surrounded by folk with colds all week and keep trying to fight it off.
I would love to join the gang at some stage and make whatever contribution I can but might have problems getting to a meeting this week unfortunately- and obviously depends where meets are held. I've been involved in fostering cats in the past and help out family and friends now but don't have a lot of space in the tiny terrace...Have contemplated installing an outdoor run/shelter but not sure how practical that might be or whether the neighbours would approve. Be interesting to see how these work for other people. Would love to foster dogs but dont think the dobermutt would approve and have in the past owned a motley collection of rabbits, gerbils, mice, guinea pigs, birds, coldwater fish - even a ferret (some years ago) so have a reasonable knowledge of most common small pets of the furry, finned and feathered variety.
Beancounter 14-05-2007, 21:07 I'm going to try to make it this time, but could be struggling for Thursday. My apologies in advance if I don't make it!
Rainrescue 15-05-2007, 10:53 Is it 7.30 still Moonbird?
I still struggling with family probs atm - will really try to come but if not am still really involved.
My biggest want is still advertising that we have the neutering vouchers. Would love to get it advertised more - about the plight of these types of dogs - the plight of there being too many dogs in the area - and the offer of these neutering vouchers.
So if anyone wanted an advertising promotion type of job - we already have the flyers done and sent out to all the post offices (thanks to SF member).
Good luck - slow and tedious i know - but if we all stick in there - maybe we will come up with doing something positive in the area.

Yes 7.30, sorry you still have problems, hope you can make it and have a bit of a break but if not everyone will understand.
I have loads of leaflets so if anyone wants to take some for distribution i will bring them with me on thursday...hope to see you xxx

Would it be worth pushing it with the Sheffield Star and Telegraph newspapers? Given that there was the terrible story about the drowned staffie in the local press last week, perhaps it is timely to remind readers that there is an alternative to dumping/ destroying unwanted pets.
Here's a link to the Star website and the section 'Your Say' where you can post letters to the Editor etc

I probably won't be able to get to your meeting but if you have your info/publicity leaflets available electronically, I'd be happy to print some out and distribute locally/ ask local vets to publish on their notice boards.
Moonbird 15-05-2007, 12:26 Would anyone who has any bedding etc for the dog warden drop it off at the meeting? even if you do not want to stay so we can take it along to them.

I think there may be if you pm rainrescue, not sure if vets will put them up or not as not all vets are participating in the scheme but it is always worth asking.

Sorry - Party Pooping again.
Whilst I think this is great & some of you know I have done things to help, off the SF. I must stress that if you are going to do this, you cannot associate the group with Sheffield Forum without first asking Geoff's permission.
KATIEB_23 15-05-2007, 13:40 Sorry I won't be able to make it this thursday :(
I would still like to help though - just let me know how I can :)
if anyone has any spare can you bring me some newspapers? If i cant make it leave it with the bar staff for me ;)

Moonbird 16-05-2007, 08:11 Sorry guys im still ill and it doesnt look like im getting better anytime soon.
Me to i have woke up with a bad chest, cough and a sore throat, so a bit concerned myself now
Moonbird 16-05-2007, 09:14 Has anybody ever thought of inviting Geoff or admin so they can see what we do.
No i havn't invited Geoff or admin, although the meeting is open to anyone who wants to attend and of course we would be more than happy to meet them, and let them see just what it is we do, indeed it is normally printed here for anyone to read so is no secret.
I doubt inviting them would make much difference to anything, as i do understand why the meetings have to be unofficial, i guess its not what the forum is all about and Geoff doesn't want or need to be legaly responsible for us.
carpetviper 16-05-2007, 09:24 I understand that but he may have some ideas and good input I wasn't looking into getting the AWG tied with the forum as I think we would have to abide with what they say then.
