My friend is wanting to buy a Labrador puppy (definitely a puppy), and would like the numbers of reputable Lab breeders in Sheffield if anyone can help please.

She recently went to a house where someone had got 1 female puppy left, and as it was the last one they reduced the cost from £350 to £250. When they got there, someone had taken the mum out for a walk, despite knowing they wanted to see her. The puppy looked quite ill - she just laid in my friends arms (not the kind of behaviour you would expect from an 8 week old pup), and showed no interest in anything.

My friend hated leaving the little dog in this filthy house but felt that she would end up with lots of problems, and possibly lots of vets bills judging by the little one's condition.

Long winded, I know but does anyone know of any 'proper' breeders in the Sheffield area?

Try these. I got mine from them. They are just outside of Sheffield.

I can't actually speak for them, but these are listed as KC Accredited Breeders on the Kennel Club Puppy Register. (and they're in Sheffield)
(Not all breeders are accredited and the accredited breeders have to follow certain rules to keep that status)

Otherwise there's all these in the North of England:

Personally, I would go with KC recommendations too.

Some useful info on health issues and what to look for in a Lab puppy

Info about the breed

and then there's

Your friend did the right thing in rejecting the puppy she went to see- you should never feel under any obligation to buy and all reputable breeders will let you see mum n pups interacting and should be happy to answer questions and concerns. What might seem like a bargain could bring a whole host of problems in the long run - always be wary of anything that smacks of puppy farming or breeding purely for profit - the real enthusiasts do it to perpetuate all the good aspects of the breed, not just to make a fast buck.
Happy hunting

Thanks everyone -she is sorted. Picked an absolutely gorgeous 2 week old pup. She just needs to wait for it to get a bit bigger.

I think she means she had see a litter and picked one. They are only 2 weeks old so she has to wait till it can leave the mum before taking him/her home.
