I taped J Ross last night for Rufus Wainwright. It's taped alright but the sound is from what was on the tape before!!!?!? So, I'e got Rufus visuals but the audio from an old episode of Family Guy!!
What the..... ?

If its a scart connected it may dameged or not in properly :) Try it out again see if it still happens, If not it could be gremlins!!
SCART is a good suggestion!
It can also be a problem with the tape head not being properly aligned with the tape.
If it happens on all tapes recorded, it's a recorder problem; if it happens on just this tape, the tape's screwed.

Just tell Rufus to tape his own bloody shows!
If you like rufus check out his dad, Loudon Wainwright III. Truly a funny man.

Yes, went to see Loudon Wainwright III in Manchester a couple of weeks ago. Great gig. Funny and sad, sometimes in teh same song. Strange thing is, we never had to show our tickets once. Just waltzed on in!

as well as the scart / heads not aligned
it could also be a dirty tape / tape heads
