Hi, I'm currently looking for a small hi fi for my bedroom. Can someone tell me the difference between a mid hi fi and a mini hi fi

I do not think they mean anything specific, it's just a name.

its just on some websites ive been looking at they come under diff categories. like there was a section for midi hi fi and a diff section for mini ones. does anyone know if this looks a decent one? or suggest a diff one for a similar price. thanks

With only 2W output per speaker it's not going to be the most impressive stereo in the world, but for that kind of money you can't really complain.

I guess you need to consider if it has what you want, and get it if it does.

hi, thanks for the replies. does anyone know of any others which are a similar price but a bit better. maybe something on sale etc. the only other 2 ive seen which look decent are below but obv more expensive. what is a sort of average price for a bedroom stereo?

Midi and mini in this context are used to give an approximation of size of the equipment itself. If I remember correctly, mini kit seems to be about the width of a CD - so they can fit one in :-) and midis are slightly bigger, typically wide enough to fit two tape decks side by side.

And from this month's Stuff magazine top 10 HiFi's is surprisingly a Goodmans that you may be interested in. Model is Goodmans 1104HDAB. It gets 5 stars and has been in their top 10 for a few months. £80 and it's got DAB!! I've been thinking about getting one for the kitchen on payday.

They're all going to do much the same job. Hi-fi's are really difficult to get good advice on. Some people will slate kit just because of the brand, some will give opinions based on specs. And trying to find someone who's listened to comparable models side-by-side and made an objective opinion is going to be hard.
Might well be worth taking two or three of your favourite CD's (that don't contain offensive lyrics) into a shop and ask to play them on a couple of models. You don't have to buy the kit from there, but you'll find out how music you like sounds on them and be able to make a better decision. If they won't let you play your CD's, leave.

look on ebay at the list 'nearest first 'option, to see what there is in your price range, then ask if you can go see it, you might get lucky and end up with a bargin,
Or try some hi-fi shops around town , big deal often had some nice stuff in fairly cheap, if you spend 40-60 in argos your probably gonna end up with something thats rubbish .
whereas 60 quid in a second hand electrical shop may get you something fairly nice.

The reviews on that link (admittedly only 2 of them) seem to suggest it may be a good buy.
