Mourners who are planning to attend the funeral of ex footballer Emelyn
Hughes in Sheffield tomorrow are being advised by police to park on the
outskirts of the city, if they are travelling by car, and to walk into the
centre.
Police do not know how many people will attend the funeral which is being
held at the Anglican Cathedral in Church Street at 12.00 noon, but they are
warning drivers that there is likely to be a shortage of parking spaces in
the city centre.
Roads immediately surrounding the Cathedral, Vicar Lane, St James Street
and St James Row, will be closed from 6.00am but Church Street itself will
not be closed.
However, police have warned bus and tram companies that there may be brief
disruption to their services while the cortege arrives at the Cathedral and
pulls onto the forecourt, and again an hour later at around 1.00pm when it
leaves.
Police, traffic wardens and city ambassadors will be on duty to assist
wherever possible and minimise delays.
The funeral will be followed by a private family cremation.
