Does anyone know of any Staffordshire Bull Terrier breeders, in Sheffield, whose dog has had a litter recentley?
We are looking to buy one at the end of June.
My husband is wanting to bring my 5 year old son to have a 'pick of the litter' and is willing to leave a deposit to secure pup.
We are wanting a Black or Brindle male if possible.
Thanks for looking.
(Please PM with details)

Would you not consider a rescue Lisa ? There are many many SBT's in rescue. To give you an idea, take a look here :http://www.rainrescue.co.uk/

RR have some truly beautiful dogs.

And also so many lovely staffy's on here looking for an home, some are a wee bit older than you wanted but just think... no house training, no chewing, and with an older dog you know what your getting you can see how it will be with your son etc instead of maybe finding out when the pup grows they don't like each other as much as you hoped.
Then of course there is the lovely warm feeling of giving an animal another chance at happiness and a good life :)

Hi LisaB you could try here

lots of useful info here and a link to the KC puppy register.

If you're thinking of buying a puppy from elsewhere, I would take note of the advice the kennel club offers (and fellow forummers) - be careful you are not getting a sick pup or one that has potential to develop serious health issues later - check out the pedigrees and make sure your pup hasnt been in-bred from closely related staffies - brother/sister/mother/son etc.

I'm not well up on possible health issues but thinking of how a staffie looks physically I guess these will include hip dysplacia, chest problems and eyes - ask the breeder about any history of illness in his/her dogs and give a wide berth if unsure - you are not obliged to buy.

I'd like to say all breeders have the best interests of their dogs at heart, but I'm not entirely convinced, what with the growing numbers who seem to want to over-breed, so it pays to be careful.

As already suggested, lots of young/juvenile staffies available through local rescue agencies including rainrescue and the rspca (sheffield/ rotherham and chesterfield), so worth a look and sadly, because this is one of the top unwanted/overbred breeds in this region, you will probably have your pick from these places. My sis-in-law went to Chesterfield RSPCA recently to look at dogs and said they had a few young staffies in. Good thing here is that you might miss out on the housetraining if you're lucky...

Here's a a few links to try: remember, not all dogs end up in rescue because they are a 'problem' - many are there because of neglect, being overbred, unwanted or because their previous owner's circumstances have changed and they can no longer keep their beloved pet.

..and don't forget there are vouchers available locally to spay or neuter your little rascal once you find him'her. Good luck xK

aw, pictures when you find your perfect lil staffie please!
all good advice give. avoid the dodgy breeders knocking out random unregistered litters and go to someone reputable, or go to a rescue, thus avoiding encouraging the unscrupulous to breed more
