View Full Version : Chatsworth anybody Sunday 20th May?
Definite arrangements for this walk are for us to meet at the car park at Baslow opposite La Lupo at 10.30 a.m. Sunday 20th May.
The 218 bus leaves Pond Stret at 09.35, arriving in Baslow at 10.10 for anyone without their own transport. See http://tinyurl.com/26gv49 for details.
The walk will go from Baslow through the estate, on good, flat paths to Chatsworth House, at which point anyone wishing to do just a short walk can return to Baslow along the same route, which will be somewhere around 3-4 miles in total.
For people wanting to add another 3-4 miles on to the walk, we will carry on along the river to the bottom of the estate, and then return to the House by crossing the bridge near the garden centre, and then going up the hill opposite, and carrying on back to the House via the Hunting Tower.
Anybody doing the short walk will be more than welcome to meet back up with the rest of the walkers at Chatsworth to return to Baslow together for the apres-walk drink and natter.
Hope this makes sense, no doubt somebody'll tell me if it doesn't!

canada_girl 15-05-2007, 11:13 I'd love to join you all as my first walk. . .Do you go rain or shine? Can anyone tell me where La lupo is? I looked it up on-line and can't find it. . .I'm new to Sheffield so don't really know the area well. (actually not at all really!)
Cheers!

Hi,
Just checked with one of the walkers who's offline at the moment, and this (http://www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk/products.php?productId=496&categoryId=67&page=1) is the restaurant. Here's a map link (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=europe&=&overviewmap=ap&addr1=&client=europe&addr2=&addr3=&pc=de451sb&db=pc&cname=Great+Britain&quicksearch=de451sb&coordsys=gb) too.
Enjoy the walk. Chatsworth is lovely :) .

Yes the walks take place rain or shine.
(Though I prefer more shine!! and only eat British food)
Come along and I hope to meet you Sunday.
You are welcome to join Thursday evenings walk if you want to.
I'm sure that you'll enjoy the walks
Sounds like a great plan Scubz, im up for the full day! Are we taking sarnies and having a picker nicker or going t'pub?

Hiya Nooka. I will be taking sarnies, but they might not get eaten if there`s a better offer along the way. Pub is a DEFINITE for when we get back to Baslow I would imagine, can't remember what it was called, but that pub we sat outside before was the HIGHLIGHT of the walk that day I think!. But we'll not go into that shall we?
Just one problem about Sunday. It's the half marathon in Sheffield, which won't affect you south Sheffielders, but it might cause me problems, so don't be surprised if my car full is late!
Sorry all, I shan't be joining you on this one. :( Too much to do, and too little weekend in which to do it!
Why can't weekends be 5 days and the working week just 2? All for the same money of course.
hi would like to come on my 1st walk, especially if the longer walk is possible as i will be travelling further than most and due to work can only make the odd walk, i've room for three in my car if needed no probs if not:)

Hi Niklek, welcome to the Group. I would say its 100% certain there will be a good few people doing the longer walk, also from what I can tell, there will be other new people coming too, so you'll not be the only 'newbie' present.
Re the offer of a lift, where are you coming from? Just in case there is anyone wanting to take you up on your offer.

Think thats probably better than going thro' centre of Sheff with the marathon taking place Sunday. When you get to Baslow, we'll be gathering at the entrance way to the car park, next to the public toilets
Will make this one Scubz - if i can keep up tommorrow!

My very good friend Albert T Smith has asked me to bid you a warm welcome to the Group! Just want to say, you'll be made welcome by everybody on Sunday, and you won't be the only new person there, looks to me like there`s going to be a few 'newbies'.
Hope you find the place ok, how are you getting there and where are you coming from?

canada_girl 17-05-2007, 20:31 I can also give anyone a ride if they like. I will be coming from Heeley in Sheffield (just south of city centre).
Cheers,
Lea
MardyBum66 18-05-2007, 16:51 Ooh! Ooh! Please can I come too?!!! Chatsworth House gardens - lovely! What a treat! Yes please!...
neoteric 18-05-2007, 17:18 I wil be coming on this one too, sort of "Chatsworth Revisited"; good title for a novel that :)
Chatsworth on 1st April 2007 was my first Forum Walk - incredibly that was only 7 weeks ago but it really feels like I've been in this group for a lot longer - this does credit to all the friendly open people who come along to these walks. Incidentally this will mean that I've managed to squeeze 16 walks in this 7 week period.
Gold star on its way to reward your attendance record my friend! The walks wouldn't be the same now without you now Neoteric, I can't remember you missing one since you came on your first one.
I think the Group will get stronger week by week now as the days get warmer and longer. For a start it looks to me like there'll be 7 new walkers in total this week, which can't be bad. See you Sunday.
Not long now . I'm getting all excited :) . And to all the noobs . That includes me by the way . You'll love it . It was my first time the other day . Everyone is very welcoming and you feel like you've known them for ages :)
WhiteMutt 19-05-2007, 10:28 Ey up everyone, Mag's and I are hoping to catch up with all you wonderful people on Sunday. If it wasn't for this walk to Chatsworth a few months ago I wouldn't have met up with the walking group. If you remember it was my first meet and I was quite nervous about turning up on my own but within minutes you all made me feel relaxed and very welcome. I would just like to say to anyone thinking of coming along to this walk for the first time that I promise that you will be made very welcome. It's a mixed group of people ranging in different ages and abilities, you can bring dogs, bring children, bring a picnic, bring whatever you like. Come on, give it a go, it's a really friendly group.

Mutty, welcome back! And to little Maggie too!
Hope she doesn't bear me a grudge for taking her away from the savoury duck she was trying to devour last time! Do you realise that that was the first time I`d got wet and dirty this year, thanks to your BrownMutt?
Having said that, last weeks drenching sure made up for all the other dry occasions. You'll be glad you missed that one :( . Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow :)
Galloway 19-05-2007, 16:26 Hi,
I'm hoping to make it for this walk but travelling by car. Where, in Baslow, is the actual meeting place please?
Thanks.
Hi,
I'm hoping to make it for this walk but travelling by car. Where, in Baslow, is the actual meeting place please?
Thanks.
Hope you make it Galloway, last time we "did" Chatsworth there were 5 new walkers, looks like there may be at least that this time.
The meeting point is the entrance to the Pay Display car park on the main road opposite the Il Lupo restaurant. If you're coming from Sheffield, don't forget that its the Sheffield half marathon tomorrow morning, and many roads are closed.
See you tomorrow.
Galloway 19-05-2007, 17:31 Ooops, err umm.......I realised, after asking the question, that full details were in 1st posting!
Oh well, just look out for miserable looking dog i.e. miserable because he's blessed with such a brainless Owner!
Thanks for both replies. I joined a Thursday eve walk (Ecclesall Woods) & much enjoyed the good humoured & friendly comany.
ItIsNow! 19-05-2007, 18:04 This looks to be a cracking walk.Looking forward to it.:) I remember you,Galloway (replied to your PM,by the way..) - spoke to your friend in the supermarket the other day, too. It was lovely to meet the both of you that evening.

Well i cleaned the house from op to bottom, then had my lunch that i had packed. Will have to make sure i set off earlier next time.I am going to be so jeaous later when your all on here talking about it .
canada_girl 20-05-2007, 14:42 Just got home and wanted to thank everyone for a brilliant walk today! The weather was gorgeous and the company fabulous :) . I'm always a bit hesitant to attend events where I don't know anyone, but I feel like I've made a whole new group of friends!
I was reading through the past threads, and where this song about 'cliqueness' has come from, is beyond me. . . .
Anyhow, will definetly attend again. And do apologize for skipping off a bit early. My husband had to work at 3pm (being a chef and being social is quite difficult!) and didn't want to be late.
Cheers,
neoteric 20-05-2007, 16:06 Just like to say what a FANTASTIC day out. Nice to meet the new people who came along and really great to see everyone enjoying themselves - just hope I've captured something of this in the snaps I took which I've posted here

Fantastic day out - and i've walked away with Alberts camera...but hey times are tough and city centre rents are crippling! :hihi: Only joking Albert - i will pm you with a recovery plan!
Couple of the hills were testing but it all was worth it for the spectacular views!
Sun was shining and i look as orange as Dale Winton now :(
Enjoyed talking to you all and this i think is the strength of this group for me -health benefits with a damn good crowd. Hope to meet you all again very soon.

Look I have enough of the good healthy stuff today let me have my choccy!!
18 people turned out today, which is the most we've ever had I think. Lovely weather, and the most glorious of surroundings combined to give us "A Grand Day out".
Big welcome to newbies LMercer and hubby, and Niklek, and commiserations to Thai on missing the bus. Maybe next time?
Full roll call............Scubz, Karen19, Albert T Smith, Nooka, WhiteMutt, Galloway, Neoteric, Taxman, Mardy Bum, Silver, Whitewitch, LMercer, Mr LMercer, Andrea, Neily, Niklek, Bystander and Galloway.
Final thought......these stately homes seem to be the most popular walks, do people want to do Wentworth Woodhouse again for the next walk, especially as the follies are opening next week for the summer?
Godzilla 20-05-2007, 18:45 Great photos neoteric. What a good day I missed. Perhaps I'll be on the next one.
Look I have enough of the good healthy stuff today let me have my choccy!!
You're a flaming chocoholic you are! Do we need to get a supply in for next week? Or can we make do with choccy flavoured oatabix?
And can I get some biccys of my own to dip in my tea please? Not asking for much really am I?

whitewitch 20-05-2007, 19:35 Well, once again i had a great day out. Didnt actually realise where we were when we got back to the car park, i was still wanting to walk, was quite dissapointed:) Also pleased that ive managed to dodge most of the photo's, which look good, especially the cow's one. Managed to catch some sun today, what lovely weather we had, with great company:) little witch is dissapointed that she missed it though
Well youve all said what I was going to say really! A great day out in the countryside with a great bunch of people! Only thing to add for me is a special thanks to Mrs T SMITH for the lift there and to Whitemutt for the lift back! See you all again soon hopefully! :D

I am the original tea dunker I`m afraid, secret supplies everywhere! I'll be hiding them this week-end though, not having that rabble nicking `em when they're starving in the middle of the night, especially after them saying the didn't want to take any! See what I have to put up with?
Rich Tea Rules!

No, hot rhubarb crumble and ice-cream rules! lol
:hihi:
MardyBum66 21-05-2007, 21:26 It was a lovely walk, by the way, yesterday - I was bowled over again by the amazing scenery; what a beautiful part of the country. I'm glad I was able to come back. It was the first time I've ever walked in such a large group of people. It was great - everyone seemed to get along so well again - and it was also nice to meet yet more new people. I just about managed to get the mud stains off my trousers, after my sky-diving-off-a-log attempt! lol Hopefully Maggie washed up well too, after her usual capers in the dirt! lol. Thanks for the much-needed suncream (what a fantastically sunny day! Beautiful!) and for so promptly posting your photos, neoteric. Again, you'll have to wait for me to get mine developed before I can share them.
parkwoman 27-05-2007, 19:51 Just got back from my hol and had to find out if all went well at Chatsworth this time. Looks like I missed a really good one and Neoteric's pics are fabulous. Refreshed and super-fit:?:, after climbing every mountain and fording every stream, I'm looking forward to meeting some of the newbies next weekend hopefully.
MardyBum66 12-06-2007, 03:47 I took quite a few photos on this walk, more than at Wortley Park at least. Here (http://picasaweb.google.com/MardyBum66/SFWalkersWalkToChatsworthHouse) they are, at last!
