Robbie Loving 16-11-2004, 09:07 I believe some people see it as a talent, and there should be places (and they do have these in certain areas, especially america i believe) where they can actually do this, some of it does look good!
but most people just like to leave a tag of there name, to make themselves look big, there not bothered what the surrounding areas look like round them and they do this for no other reason than to be a moron
Moon Maiden 16-11-2004, 09:08 define graffiti? Do you mean graffiti that most people understand or tagging?
Would you like these questions answered here or by e-mail. If it is e-amil you may wish to activate your e-mail address in your profile.

MoonBeam 16-11-2004, 13:15 Heya - I have activated my email account so if you wish to answer the questions by email go for it if not use the message board - really really appreciate your help peeps.
Graffiti "art" can look quite cool when it's in a place that's been set aside for it. "Tagging" (which is most definitely not art) is a disgrace and the idiot culprits should be subject to far stricter penalties than simply having to clean it up. In the eyes of victims it is no worse an act of vandalism than arson or stealing.
I did read (probably here somewhere?) that some victims had taken pictures of "tags" left on their property to local schools and asked (quite successfully I believe) if the schools recognised the little brats "art".

Broken home, of school age but often skive to do more graffiti.

fnkysknky 18-11-2004, 07:43 1. Do you notice graffiti?
Yes
2. Does it annoy you?
No
3. Why do you think people do graffiti?
Depends, some because they are bored and do it to show off. Some see it as an art form and want to show others. Some just to make a statement. Basically it depends on what sort of graffiti we are talking here?
4. How does seeing graffiti make you
feel?
I enjoy looking at the good stuff, don't really feel anything towards the one line scribbles etc.
5. What do you think are the ages of
those most likely to do graffiti?
Again depends on what you are classing as graffiti. Random rubbish is usually school kids while from experience the better stuff is 16-30ish.
6. What sort of background / education
do you think graffiti artists come
from?
Could be any.
7. What characteristics would you use
to decribe graffiti artists e.g.

Artisitic - apart from that you're being silly, people are different.
8. How do you perceive a graffiti artist?
e.g. clothes /interests
Again everyone is different
9. Which area of Sheffield do you live in
& is graffiti a problem?
Near town and there's a bit but I don't find it a problem
10.Can you think of any positive
aspects of graffiti?
Yes it's an artistic outlet, when done well it turns a drab wall into a nice work of art,
11.Do you think legally designated
areas for graffiti are a good idea and
would you have them in your area?
Yes and yes.
12. What is your occupation?
Run my own joinery & building company.

For anyone that is an amazing graffiti artist, PM me.. I think it looks cool, and would pay for someone to cover the surface of my bedroom wall
1. Do you notice graffiti?
Yes
2. Does it annoy you?
The scribble does, the actual "art" doesn't

For the same reason the people carved their initials into the coliseum a thousand years ago, to leave their mark.

5. What do you think are the ages of those most likely to do graffiti?

From all backgrounds.
I doubt the graffiti in Millhouses is done by kids from Manor Park

emotional, aggressive, single-minded, cool etc.
I don't know any, so couldn't guess.
