Noticed that the Forum (the bar) has applied for permission to open an upstairs pool room. What are your opinions on this? Do you think it will be a success or do you think the popularity of pool has declined? None of the 'new' bars in the city centre appear to have installed one pool table - let alone a whole room full!

we had one in the bar 101....it more than paid for itself..most of the day time punters came in just for the pool......if we'd had enough room for 2 tables i would have got another one, apart from fri/sat wednesdays was our busiest night..pool night

I think a lot of the new bars have thought "what will get us the most money a pool table taking-up 24 square-foot of space being used by two people, or 24 customers standing in one square foot of space per person ?"

I like pool, and being able to play without having to keep asking people to move would be nice. I hope it works out for them.

Thats a brilliant idea, short of going to rileys there isn't that many places.

I think its a great idea. Sheffield has been crying out for this for some time. If anyone has ever been to the Elbow Rooms in Leeds then I hope it will be like that. You can hire a pool table for an hour (american size) and there is music playing a dance floor and they serve food as well. Its a great night out rather than just standing around in bar after bar.

kids must get bored of playing comp all day, that skate park on devonshire looks ok, but not at night

Me and my friends tend to go to pubs that have a pool table as we play pool a bit and like a couple of games and a pint. Apart from frames(rileys) there isnt really anywhere else to go with more than one/two tables

Devonshire green isn't as bad as it used to be a couple of years ago.

Yeah that's a great little venue. Unfortunately I doubt whether this will be of the same standard, but it's still a good idea..

if it is only half as good as elbow rooms then it will still be a must visit

Pool tables are excellent when the pubs are quiet during the week or daytime but on the busier nights it is near impossible to play and often the tables have to be covered.

I wonder if they will have the burley bouncers on the door for the pool room to make sure you are wearing the 'in' designer wear..if your not dressed head to foot in the trendy stuff they sell accross the road..' ya not comin in'

The new Hallam Union building isn't going to have any pool tables, can't wait to see how popular that is with the students.

I hope the license is granted.

If the plans go ahead, I will certainly check it out.

Here`s hoping they do not charge too much all being well for them.

Good idea.

I think its a good idea, although I don't like the idea of letting kids in particularly if they are trying to create an elbow rms feel.

I had a look round The Common Room (as the pool hall is to be called) and was well impressed even though non of the fixtures n fittings are in yet.but its already looking really impressive! I dont think its gonna have a problem competing with The Elbow Room.
As for having the "Dev Green Kids" in during the day ive only got 3 words for you.....

NOT

A

CHANCE!

How would you make "a killing" out of 17 year olds who get £5 a week pocket money???
Its gonna be a bar so over 18's only (a lot of you will be pleased to hear!)

i first heard they were going to have a pool hall about 5 years ago when the upstairs part first closed. I think its a good idea, the forums been in decline for a while now, its bout time it got something new.

I think if they played good music and allowed access to the bar it would be a great idea. Town doesn't have enough places with decent pool tables.

It would be nice to have something in Sheffield like The Sports Cafe (http://www.thesportscafe.net/), the one in Leeds has 13 pool tables, and Yates's in Leeds (near the Merrion Centre) has around 10 pool tables upstairs.
