The pictures have been published as part of the RSPCA's campain to find the people responsable, the dog was found floating in smithies fishing lake, it's four legs had been bound and its mouth taped shut. The poor thing had no chance.

Sick F***s. People are really getting to me at the moment. Its bad enough when its through ignorance but deliberate cruelty like this defies belief.

This is awful, glad I didn't buy a star today
Things seem to be getting worse, whats wrong with people these days.
This poor dog must be one, of the ones somebody decided they didn't want anymore, and easy way out, with no feelings,

All the animals I've ever had, and believe me there have been plenty.
They have all stayed with me for their life, I've been completely heart broke
when one of them has died what I consider too young.

I have worked, and had chidren, and moved house, all the excuses given
for wanting to get rid of pets,

But never ever, would I have considered the pets I had at the time not
being part of my plans.

They all deserve a forever home, which is what they get with me.
If only people would think, just a little, and not class animals as
a disposable commidity, get fed up get rid.

Sorry to go on but this poor staffy just seems to be the last straw,:(

Even if the evil gets are caught, what's going to happen to them? A fine? Picking up litter for a week? Banned from keeping a dog? Until we get harsher sentencing.... oh, i can't even be bothered, it makes me sick.

Isn’t it a fine not exceeding £20,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 51 weeks (sometimes both) and banned from keeping a dog/animal and they could be made to pay for court proceedings.

Its sick what some people will do to animals, lets hope the evil people that did it are caught and someone should throw them in the river.

It is indeed Pigger, under the terms of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, but sadly the intention of the new act was to prevent cruelty rather than punish it once it had already happened.

I can't find a link to this story online- can anyone else?

Thank you for the link mrteabag (and Pigger too).

Doesn't make it any easier to understand now, but at least we can show that it's not Sheffield Forum hysteria.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Why didn't these 'people' dump him at a shelter if they wanted to get rid of him so badly. It's vile. There is no need for such barbaric cruelty, that poor little man didn't stand a chance.

I despair.....the same thing happened near where my parents live. At West Burton Power Station they found a lab/retriever tied to concrete and thrown in to the fishing lakes.

I just end up in tears when I read things like this....it breaks my heart :(

No wonder I have more time for my animals :(

I couldnt get the link to open at work, but from what I read here, this is an horrific, cruel and barbaric act by a a mindless thug or thugs- I pray it wasn't the owners that allowed this to happen to get rid of a 'problem'. How could anyone do such a thing?

Terrible- I sincerly hope something bad happens to the monster(s) whocarried out this evil act, karma and all that.

That is absolutely heartbreaking, I wont even look at the Star because I cant look at a picture like that.

It always seems to be staffy's, I remember seeing in the news once about a staffy that was tied to a tree and burnt alive, poor little darling.

It must take the most evil scum that walk this earth to be able to something like that to a poor defensless animal.

I read this article, too, and saw the awful pictures that accompanied it.

It's incredibly distressing, and it makes me really angry to think that someone could do this to an animal.

When I think of the companionship, love and happiness my own little old dog brings me, and has brought me, over the nearly-14 yrs I have had him, it just breaks my heart, and makes me want to cry when I read stories like that.

I sincerely hope the RSPCA find the low-lives responsible for this, and get a successful prosecution for it. My hope would be a life sentence (some hope! )for the culprits, and an entire- lifetime ban from owning any animal in future.

perhaps a branding, on their forehead, might not go amiss, either...

I hope the sick b******s, get caught and sent down for it. No scratch that, I hope someone ties their arms and legs together, gags them with tape and throws them to the deepest part of the same lake! They deserve everything that will be coming to them, be it from the police or someone who knows what they have done.

When I think of that poor little dog and what he/she must have been thinking and feeling, I could get a big sawn off shotgun and shoot the B******s that did it. I would like to tie them up and bind their legs together.

It makes me wanna cry. I just hope the little dog went quickly. Why do people do it. I volounteer at the Thornberry and when we see some of th dogs that come in it makes you wonder what kind of people could do this to such cruel little innocent things.

I could take all the dogs and cats and animals home that come into the sanctury but lets all be realistic couldnt we all. I espicially love the little bundles of fluff and purr that come in.

Its not animals that are bad its the people who make them bad and that is the saddest part of it all its people who are the guilty ones. Thank God for the good people.

The heart wrenching thing is... I bet it wasn't terrified :(

I bet this poor dog sat quietly wagging its tail as the tape was stretched around its jaws, and didn't trusted its owner implicitly as its legs were bound

I'm not looking at the pics - I'm not convinced this campaign is doing any real good. It's sick people who feed of this kind of thing. Decent people refuse to buy the paper with that in it - it's all about shock tactics and sales figures

And people wonder why this group is so insitent on the concept of purchasing from breeders with a returns policy and stamping out those who don't have one :(

We live in a society that thinks it's okay to treat dogs like bikes

(leave them out in the rain, sell em when you're fed up with them, sling them in the canal if it's 'broke' )

I think the pics were released in the hope the dog would be recognised and someone would be so disgusted they would report its owner.

yes I wondered about that-surely youd know if your staffie had gone missing? My suspicious mind suggests the dog was unwanted and it wasnt intended to be found, but I hope I'm wrong...
