How long should hammy nails be? I don't think my little pidge is doing a good enough job at keeping them short anymore (even though the little critter could give long distance runners a run for their money!)

I'd like to trim them myself if necessay as he HATES going to the vet (will draw blood) but want to make sure I'm doing everything right.

Help please!

He's not keeping them at a reasonable length anymore...and refuses to use his chew block for his teeth (they aren't too bad though) even though there is nothing wrong with his teeth (vet said so) If you change his food he grumps for days too (why is it he only likes the expensive stuff???)

He's completely tame but can't poo if anyone is around (if he's in his ball he hides behind the sofa to poo then comes out and waits for you to empty it) he wont eat anything but lettuce and yoghurt treats if people are around, and if you catch him running in his wheel he jumps off and pretends he wasn't doing it, waits until you've gone, then carries on again!! And his new trick? No longer nocturnal  I swear there is something wrong with his wiring :loopy:

His favourite is lettuce seedlings. Cucumber is a no no - it gets thrown out of the cage! He's gone off his basil fetish and now loves corriander and strawberries. Grapes are only acceptable if you peel them and cut them in 1/8ths. For a treat, there is nothing more welcome than cheese on toast (thats what happens when you put your plate down quickly in the run to catch the little critter trying to escape!)

If he wasn't so loving I'd dispair as he's such a stupid animal. I forgot to feed him yesterday evening (it got a bit late, I'm such a bad person) and he lead a silent protest by sitting in his food bowl for half an hour. Mebbe if he hadn't sat in it I'd have noticed it was empty

He can live with his nails - I'm buying him some rocks for the summer to sit on if it gets too warm so he can have a scrabble on those. Its not like he can't get his feet in his mouth (yes pidge, I've watched you do it, and yes I did see that time when you put your paw in your mouth whilst climbing the side of the cage and then you fell off :hihi:)

lol! Our hammies have taken to acting like Tarzan and swinging across the top of the cages
