Whos started hearing all the sayings!
'it looks like snow - you can tell with that chill' Anyone know the odds for a white Xmas in Sheffield this year?
Also, why does each winter seem to get less snow in Sheff each year, I remember in the 80's when there used to be inches of it coming down way before Xmas! we all used to take bin bags to school to do sledging during playtime!

Yeh and whats happening with the Snow anyway? I think we've had the short stick for the past few years.

I think the last bad snow we had was around 96? I seem to remember having my eldest in his pram at the time, we certainly dont seem to be getting our fair share of the stuff.
I love to see how a little bit of snow can grind just about everything to a halt. Its never stopped me.. love the stuff, get on me wellies and off I go.

Yeah there was snow on the ground from early January until mid Feb in 96 I think.

Was my first winter this far north, and I thought it was going to be like that every year!

Can anyone remember if it was 1982 or 1983 when it snowed about 6 inches overnight and it was a proper white xmas! I was only young and loved it - waking up to a white blanket covering everything outside on Xmas day.

It was that deep that my dad had to shovel most of it away from the kitchen door so we could get outside and my mum ended up putting a pot of porridge in the snow to cool down! LOL:P

Ok I admit it I'm a snow hater. HATE IT!! Traffic nightmare! It looks lovely and pretty on the hills + gardens and provided I don't have to use the car it can stay.

6 inches of snow is great. Then my car looks as good as everybody else's, and so does my garden.

I love snow, I like how it goes realy quiet when it's snowing, you can't hear traffic or anything.

Best is when you go to the pub for the night and when you leave it has snowed, it's much more fun when your drunk for some reason, falling over is not such a problem.

I havent heard "It's too cold to snow" yet, though I'm expecting it in the next few weeks.

Christmas 1981/1982 we had a snowfall. I recall it because we had just moved house and outside my bedroom window - it was a bungalow - we had a bush with Christmas lights on it and I recall how festive it looked in the snow. (Is this putting you in the mood?)

I think we also had more in 1982/3 but not like the previous Christmas. I do however recall a huge snowfall around Christmas 1977/78, so bad that we had to walk to school. I remember walking down Hangingwater Road and there wasn't a car in sight
and I'd never seen the playground so covered in snow.

But it is true that we don't get snow like we used to. I mean, does it feel like November to you? It feels it could be any month of what was been a poor year!

Finally, around 1981/2 we managed to get out to Castleton to see the lights and as the area was covered in snow it was beautiful. We sat by the roaring fire in the Bull's Head. Lovely!

According to the forecast just now there's a possibility on high ground for this area on Friday morning, - Scotland should get some tonight.

Yay !

Don'ty go round saying that though, or all the busses will stop running.

My Daughter was born on April 27 1981 and there was a foot of snow overnight.
I remember having to walk from Pitsmoor to the Norther general because the roads were grid locked and the buses canceled.
