Basically I'm afraid I don't think he is good enough to be refereeing in the Premiership.
Every match that he officiates he seems to miss something crucial.
While I appreciate that referees can't get it right all the time, I just feel he makes too many errors.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Sorry but I don't really watch football enough to know which referee he is.
Which match did he referee at the weekend, then I'll know as I watched match of day.
One thing I have noticed about referees and the game in general is that there are more penalties than usual. Is it just me that's noticed this?
He lives in Sheffield, I know where he lives but i'd never knock on his door and tell him he's no good. He's huge!!...

I'm aware he is from South Yorkshire and if it is Sheffield where he lives then perhaps he might come join the debate.
yeah he's a local bloke, my dad has spoken to him a few times, i think they are on some athletic/sports council together or sumat.
he seems a genuine guy who take no rubbish and yes he is big! which can put players in there place quickly. i think he's similar to colina in the way that he is big, bald and distinctive which can blind people from how good someone is.
i'll sit on the fence, from what ive seen he is as good as any other top level ref. im sure there are worse.
bring in tv replays!! is about time we did!!
He is a good bloke, went to school with him at Hurlfield Comp on East Bank Road (now called Myrtle Springs). Lived on the Wybourn at the time so learnt from an early age how to handle himself. It wasn't (and never will be) the most tolerant of neighbourhoods.
As far as refereeing goes, he is capable but like most of them he does make the odd mistake. FA assessors attend every match and im sure if he was continually marked down he would lose his Premiership spot.
TV replays are definitely the way forward and certainly seem to work in Rugby League and Cricket.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I prefer the game to have humans in control as much as possible. Just high standards need to be maintained as much as possible

I agree with TV replays 100%. The number of referee mistakes in football recently is awful.

Uriah goes to gym down at don valley!
Seems an ok bloke.
I don't think he is that bad to be honest, and ive seen much worse referees, some refs seem to have problems with certain players,
As for TV replays, i think this can only have a negative effect on a game!
Rugby is a tottally different game and it is easier to go look at the replays!!
With football, there would be nothing worse than piling loads and loads of pressure on a team, for the game to be stopped to see if a decision should be made,
you lose all rythym then, and its not always gonna go your way!
It would be time consuming, and then if it is found that the reply shows nothing, a droppped ball would occur!!
Do you think the refs are under pressure to rectify poor decisions from the week before. I've read some comments by Shearer than seem to suggest that he thinks because the Ref made a bad decision and didn't give them Man Utd a penalty against Man City the week before he felt under pressure to award Man Utd one against Newcastle.
It does sound crazy but not totally out of the question.
