Doing the rounds in S5 at the minute are these people that knock on the door wanting to put your registration number on you windows, headlights etc. Are these people reliable or what? They wanted to charge me £20 saying they were doing the neighbours galaxy for £30.

You can usually get this done for about the same at Autoglass etc. Be careful with the door to door merchants though as some of the etching methods can cause unwanted damage and they may not be insured for that !!

I had it done for free, I'm sure it was Autoglass who did it but I might be mistaken. It was a while ago now. I don't think I would pay for it, especially not if it was someone who just turned up at my door!

Autoglass did it free for me too, I just showed them my insurance certificate last year and they etched all my windows for free. Just up from DQ bar.

I would be wary of anyone going door to door offering this service. It could easily be a chance to check out the contents of your car or even make off with it if you leave the keys with them. Well worth checking which company they are from and if they have some sort of proper ID before taking up this service. Even if they are genuinely offering a service, it's worth checking to make sure they are a reputable company as suggested by someone above.

Yes autoglass do it free and some times the police hold glass sesions where they ask for a donation which is used to pay for locks for old folk and you get a lot of advertising bumf from the firm doing it .

i used a door to door merachnt 5 or 6 years ago, they did a spiffing job on my Alfa Romeo for the princely sum of £10.

I had mine done a couple of years ago great job even did my alloy wheels
check if any neighbours have had theirs done,:thumbsup:

Many new cares already have some form of security on the windows anyway. Check the windows and look for a number and then check your handbook. You may find you are already etched up as so to speak.

I had mine done last year by door to door they said they would do it for £20 i told him no so he said ill do it for £10 so i had it done no problems

This sounds dodgy:suspect: Just give me the keys while we do it (so we can drive of with it,more like no thanks). I know technically (sp) they don`t need the keys but how many people may fall for this:loopy: . Just contact your insurance company if you`ve got glass cover a lot offer this service for free.
