I've been wondering, are there any plans to actually renovate these 2 buildings?
The old supermarket I mean is the one near the HSBC and Melissimo Picture Framers, I can't remember what it was called.
Anyway, do you think they should be renovated? If so, what do you think they should do with them?
I think a snooker centre would be a good idea. I think one of those would do quite well in Stocksbridge.
Whilst we're on about it aswell, does anyone have any information/pictures of the old cinema? It was way before my time so it would be quite interesting to read about it!

I remember the old supermarket being called Liptons, going back a few years though.
Its a shame its its been empty for so long, be nice if they could do something with it. I always thought of an indoor play area for young kids would be a good idea.

I don't know it as Liptons. I think it was something like Lo-Cost.

Before your time then. Thats right it was Lo Cost, it was Liptons before it was Lo Cost.

The row of shops known locally as the parade is owned by the Co-op. The old supermarket is a twin unit that is in dreadful condition. I know two people who have investigated the possibility of setting up business in the disused unit and both tell the same story. Basically the Co-op want a new tenant to pay for the repairs to the unit which includes asbestos removal and roof repairs and to pay an over the top rent, so the prospective business moves elsewhere. Why the Co-op seem to be actively discouraging use of the building remains a mystery.

I don't know what the finalised plans for the Victory club are but the refurbishment work is now well under way. It would be nice to see the old 6 table snooker room refurbished and as popular as it used to be.

That'll explain why its been empty for so long then. How long is it now? Its got to be 15 years!!

Snooker is a very popular game with all ages. I think making the Victory Club into a snooker club would be a great idea. You could get loads of tables in there!
The only thing I'd be worried about would be all these annoying little chavs all of a sudden deciding they want to "take up the game" so that they've all got somewhere to go at night and basically just be a nuisance in the club.
I'm actually surprised that there doesn't seem to have been any interest in this already TBH. I mean theres places smaller than Stocksbridge that have got snooker clubs. Wombwell has got one with about a dozen tables in, plus half a dozen or so pool tables, and that always used to be quite busy when I went in there.
