Playing football the other day, I took a free kick and straight away I felt something go in the top of my thigh, at the front. It felt like a muscle has overstretched or I'd torn something but I could hardly move. It has been aching now for the past two days but is very, very, slowly getting abit better.
Any advice on what it might be or how best to treat it?
does sound like you may have damaged a muscle. it'll heal though. I'd suggest using ibupfrofen (sp?) cream - the high % strength. and maybe try putting an ice pack on it too.

Someone told me to rotate between hot and cold packs on it as this causes more oxygen around it and heals it quicker?

excellent advice - this is a wonderful cure all for many ills.
Just spoke to my fella -(he's at work) he knows more about sports injuries than I do.
he said it sounds like a small tear in the muscle. Best thing you can do initially is rest it. But every now and then try to walk on it and flex the muscle then stretch out so as it heals it doesn't become stiff.

If it's a tear (which it sounds like it is), then I'd say rest it with an ice pack to reduce any possible swelling, and to increase blood flow.
As it has been a couple of days, I'd try some light exercise on it, and what I said before.
Either that or get drunk.
Thanks for the advice guys, will try to walk abit more today.... thats my lazy bank hol idea down the drain
