My computer keeps turning off and restarting for no reason. It happens about every 3 hours or so I reckon. When it restarts the error report that gets sent to microsoft contains the following 2 files and I haven't got a clue what they mean:
C:\DOCUME~1\Neil\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERbae3.dir00\Mini1 11404.02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Neil\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERbae3.dir00\sysda ta.xml
I don't know how to fix the problem. I've got BT broadband, got a firewall (however when I first start the computer a balloon comes up saying that anti virus software may not be installed on this network when I know that it is). I've got Windows XP.
Have I got a virus? I never open emails that I don't recognise.
Will my computer be overheating?
Please help! Thanks.

Yes I think you have got a Virus what anti virus are you using I had the same problem when I first installed XP and Broadband can't remember what it was call. If you don't have a virus scanner Panda have a free online scanner thats quite good.

Thanks mate. I'll give it a try.
If you have sp2 installed you will be receiving the notification from the security center. You can stop this by opening the security center and selecting 'change the way security center alerts me'.
You never did say what security you have running?. If you have not got any antivirus program running, you need to get one.
Run spyware scans using Ad-aware and Spybot search and destroy as well.
Looking at the error report i would also empty my temp folder as well. Start/Run/TYPE: %temp% / Enter. Delete all the files in the folder.
Delete all your temporary internet files and cookies just to be on the safe side.
Run This (http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/) online trojan scan.
Get back to us if this does not sort your problem ;).
Cheers. I'll try it tomorrow or one day this week and let you know.

Very unlikely your PC is overheating after 3 hours so I think you can discount that...
It's more likely to be virus behaviour... especially given that the errors seem to relate to temporary files.
A few more details would help though... ie:
- Name, version, latest update for Anti-Virus software
- Name, version of firewall
- Any Windows Updates you've still got to install?
- Any other information you can think of that might be relevant...
If you get stuck there's plenty of resources listed on here that will help you out.
Best of luck...
Thanks for all your advice. My mate is a lecturer at the square mile in town and I gave him a call. He came round and installed Ad Aware SE Personal which got rid of all the spyware on my computer. One of the files must have become corrupted and the software got rid of it on my computer which is running ok now apart from my scanner (please see my post!)
Thanks again guys.
Ad-aware SE will not get rid of all the spyware on it's own but i'm glad your pc's almost back to normal .

It seems your computer was struck down with the notorious Blue Screen of Death
