View Full Version : Thurs Evening Walk 10th May - Wadsley/Loxley Common
Anyone fancy a Thursday evening walk? Meeting at 6pm at the Rural Lane Car Park.
Taxman suggested Wadsley/Loxley common the other day, which is a great walk with plenty of routes, depending on length of walk required, weather, etc. Oh, and there's a couple of pub options for a thirsty Thursday too, in case anyone wants to round off the evening with a glass of lemonade.
Buses from city centre are 13 and 14, and theres car parking too. Supertram from Middlewood Terminus then a walk up to the meeting place.
Anyone care for a stroll?
Godzilla 04-05-2007, 13:04 Taxman is up for this one. He'll probably get the tram there and walk up. He says he is keen to show off some more of his bench building skills whilst up there.
Sorry folks I can't make this one as I'm on lates but I hope you all behave as I will have my eye on you! :suspect:
I`ll be there, all being well
Godzilla 07-05-2007, 12:53 Count me in for this one.
Godzilla 07-05-2007, 23:12 I'll be arriving by car. Where are we all meeting?
Taxman suggested meeting at the Rural Lane car park. Shall we make it 6pm, unless anyone favours a slightly later start?
For those using the tram, get the Middlewood tram to the terminus and walk straight up Langsett Avenue. At the top, cross over and go up Well Lane (tiny little lane), turn right at the top of there and the car park is there.
If you are using the 13 or 14 bus, get off at Wisewood School, walk along Rural Lane (past the Wadsley Jack pub) and continue on that road until you get to the car park.

6.00 and Rural Lane is fine by me. Anyone wanting a lift there from S2, can meet me at corner of Queens Road/St Marys Gate at 5.30 if they want.
Boddhisattva 08-05-2007, 17:22 Hi, wouldn't mind joining you guys on thursday if you didn't mind a newcomer crashing in on your walk.
I can drive but don't know how to get to where you are meeting.
Boddhisattva, you are more than welcome to join our merry troupe! Not sure of the postcode, but if you get directions to Rural Lane, or the Wadsley Jack pub, then you can follow the directions given earlier.
Look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

The more the merrier we always say. You'll get a warm welcome :)
Avondale 09-05-2007, 14:36 sounds like a plan to me, count me in, anything a newbie needs to bring with him?
Nope, just a cheery disposition! It's not a full-on hike, and the paths are pretty clear on the commons, so sturdy shoes and maybe a waterproof.

I will be coming along and would like a lift from Queens Rd - I will be there at the at 5:30 - thanks Scubz.
Godzilla 10-05-2007, 23:27 Great walk this evening: Feargal and Andrea, Taxman, Neoteric, Scubz and me! Nice meander over Wadsley and Loxley Commons, lots of passing dogs to fuss and then a pint in the Wadsley Jack. My last port of call was Taste of India on Bradfield Road.
It was a thrill to meet Scubz' new little friend, Mary. (She stayed in the car while we walked.)

Sorry to disappoint you Godzperson, but apparently Mary is a "he", so subsequently has been re-christened more appropriately! "He" is now called Scoop lol
neoteric 10-05-2007, 23:59 Yet another enjoyable walk, it's the first time I've ventured into this part of Sheffield, which has some fantastic views over the city. Thanks to Scubz - or should we now call you Birdman - for the lift and to Taxman for the navigation and another fine example of his bench making skills:)

Surely that should be Mickey? I thought Andrea made that perfectly clear ;)
It was a good walk. Plenty of meandering about, and some views over the city. I love how it looks so green, and as Godzilla said last night - you're never too far from a green space in Sheffield. We're very lucky!
Taxman's bench was indeed most comfortable and well-placed.
