View Full Version : Photoshop: I want to share my good fortune and ask a question!
Draggletail 03-05-2007, 20:32 Whilst removing furniture today from an empty student house in Crookes, out of a desk drawer popped out a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS and Adobe Image Ready (with serial key)
All installed nicely :)
The interfaces on both programmes look virtually identical - what's the differance between the two?
Obviously I'm going to be up late playing, but I thought I'd get myself off to a flying start by asking.
And I wanted to make you all jealous, of course ;)
Ivor&Mel 03-05-2007, 20:43 They do look similar, but
ImageReady had fewer features than Photoshop and was designed for quick editing of web graphics rather than effects-intensive graphics editing. To that end, ImageReady had specialized features such as animated GIF creation, image compression optimization, image slicing and rollover effects, and HTML generation.
At least, that's what Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_ImageReady) says :)
Well That Nothing Realy Once I Was Working In Furniture Store And Had The Same Job As You And Had To Take A Suite Away They Use To Dump The Stuff But It Was A Nice Sofa So I Told The I Was Going To Give To A Charity And Started Cleaning But The Lucky Thing Was I Found Over £80 Worth Of Change Notes And Other Bits Inside It But The Owner Of The Sofa Had Moved So I Got To Keep It

Cheers Ivor&Mel, that explains it well - I'll use ImageReady whilst messing around with the website, and have a play in photoshop other times

Nice find :)
Shame a 'Non Caps At The Start Of Every Word' keyboard didn't pop out from under a cushion too. ;)

I've found that the best thing to do with the Caps Lock key is to take it off - literally! Just bin the damned thing! It's the most useless and annoying feature of keyboards.
SpeedwayDan 06-05-2007, 20:06 i only ever really use image ready for animated gifs and such like, everything else i use cs2
Phanerothyme 06-05-2007, 20:54 Photoshop allows you to edit the image in Imageready and vice versa - there's a button at the bottom of the toolbar to switch
Ivor&Mel 06-05-2007, 21:28 I think it's "horses for courses"… For GIFs/web stuff, use ImageReady; for photos, use Photoshop. Not being into the former, I just use Photoshop, and it does an incredible job. I have a front tooth missing at the moment, and the wife insists on taking photos of it! A couple of clicks in Photoshop and my tooth is back :hihi:

The best way to think of IR is as a parallel programe you can dip into from PS when preparing images for the web. The idea being, you create your image in PS and then slice and dice make rollovers etc in IR. As someone mentioned above, click on Icon at bottom of toolbar to switch open file to the other programme.
As an aside the new version of Photoshop CS3 Image Ready has disappeared as many of IR's fetures are now within PS itself.
