Here's a ticklish dilemma for the New Labour government:

Michael Chertoff, the US homeland security secretary, has reportedly told the Government that British Pakistanis should apply for a visa before travelling to America.

Daily Telegraph article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/05/03/nvisa03.xml)

The British government is normally happy to go along with whatever measures are devised by the US authorities to fight the 'war on terror'. On the other hand, British citizens of Pakistani origin might be offended at being treated differently to other British passport holders. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall to hear our political masters debating this one.

it has to make sense. the fault lies with muslims who are terrorists. they are responsible.

Is that Pakistani's that were born in Pakistan and have since lived and settled in the UK or are we talking British nationals who come from a Pakistani background? If it's the latter, I can't see how it could work as they will have a British town/city as the place of birth in their BRITISH passport and other than asking them, how the hell can someone distinguish between Pakistanis/Indians/Bangladeshi etc etc..

Totally absurd!!

its not nationality thats important its religion. they wouldnt stop christians, if there are any, in prodominently muslim countries. dont know how they would identify a persons religion though, jews would be easier though.

If he is refering to british pakistanis, he must mean people with dual nationality.
All UK people must have visa to enter the USA.
Some may be entering from the UK using their Pakistani passports, which do not require a visa (confirmation to follow).
Britain is known internationally as the breeding ground of terrorism.
The ones who commited the vile murders in Egypt a few years ago were from this country for instance.

I just hope it doesn't lead to all of us needing visas to go to the USA.

I imagine their tourism numbers are way down now just because of the hassle of getting into their country.

Well I can safely say that has put me off of travelling to America again, and they wonder why they come in for so much criticism. Muppets :loopy:
