View Full Version : Cinema Rant
kittykat 13-11-2004, 23:01 To all those of you who went to the cinema today and were in my screen THANKS A LOT for mumbling and laughing and messing with your mobile phones all the way through the film. Thanks so very much. I dont have much money and the entrance fee was quite a lot of money to me but i paid it and expected to enjoy a film. I have no idea what it was about as i was distracted by you idiots.
I got security and you went quiet when they came in making me look a fool.
I told you to shut it and you laughed at me.
WHY THE HELL pay the fee just to sit and mess about with your mates showing off by saying crude words. Are you stupid? Are you incapable of sitting for an hour and half still and quiet?? If not they why go to the cinema.
Its getting so that every damn week im having to tell you idiots to shut up. I enjoy watching films and i enjoy watching them on the big screen - i like to hear the words and follow the story.
Please dont make me have to limit my choices to only films with a rating of 18 (which seem to be the only ones that dont contain idiots) I shouldnt have to. People should have more regard for others.
Sometimes i wonder where this world is heading. Everywhere I go there are stupid, irresponsible, ignorant, rude young people and it worries me. Young teenagers smoking 40 a day without regard for their health, swearing loudly infront of all and sundry.
And another point to another group of youths i find irritating- young mums who take their babies out at 10-11 at night. Yes i see them walking at the side of the roads with their pals with a poor baby in the freezing cold at night when it should be in bed. Get inside and act like a proper mother. Its getting so that everytime i drive home from work i see a baby out on the streets with a mother who a more naive person would presume to be its slightly older sister.
I wish i could throw all these idiots into a huge metaphorical sack and beat some sense into them. What other way can we get through to them??
What the .... ? But I never went to the Talkies. I was pushed around Meersbrook park with Colleen my helper puffing and panting behind. (its a bit steep for her - he he)
You're right about youngsters though. They don't know they're born! 40 a day - when there was rationing you made do without!
WallBuilder 14-11-2004, 00:07 I suggest you learn to complain in a way that will make the cinema staff pay attention to you, i.e. ask for a refund and don't take 'no' for an answer..
Take a look at my old post about 'stocks' that'll help deal with annoying kids.

This baffles me as well. Why pay money to go to a cinema when you don't actually want to watch the film. Why not go to one of the many dozens of places where they can laugh, chat and play with their phones to their hearts content? It's obvious, isn't it? They haven't got an ounce of imagination or interest in anything except making life unbearable for every one else.
I've said this before - the one saving grace is that they will suffer this tenfold from the generation that comes after them. Hope I live long enough to enjoy it.
WallBuilder 14-11-2004, 00:17 I vaguely remember my youth and going to see the film Rollerball,, I had to go and see it twice as the first time i had a young lady on my arm. Whenever i hear Bach's tocata in D minor it reminds me off that time., but at least we weren't disturbing any others.

I remember going to see a film along time before I met Doris! Everyone smoked and talked all the way through. But we didn't mind as there was no sound!

There are schemes where you pay like £9.99 a month and can go to the cinema as much as you like. I know they have such a scheme @ UGC (centertainment).
I once went to see a Mickey Rourke film after thirteen pints, and sat on the back row spewing my guts up for most of the film...
So look on the bright side. It could've been much worse.
There have always been and will always be people like this. The problem is there are becoming more and more of them - chavs breed a lot and usually start from an early age, so their population is growing exponentially at a greater rate than the rest of the population. Their only purpose in life is to annoy other people. Don't try to reason with them either - you can't reason with inconsiderate, anti-social scum.

I wouldn't like to say, but all I know is that when I've experienced similar incididents it's always the stereotypical "chav" kids that are the culprits.

People who are in a well off position conform to societies rules because it is in their best interests to do so.
People who are not is such a well off position won't conform to societies rules for the same reason ... it is in their best interest not to do so.
If you look deep enough ... everyone is the same ... i.e. has self interest at heart.
Why should 'chavs' play by the same rules you do t020 ... when they cannot possibly win the game by doing so ... !?

I don't quite follow - why is this a competition? In the above example, a crowd of people are all in the same position in that they have paid for tickets (on the day or monthly subscription) to see a film. Presumably they want to see the film, and they'd definitely be aware that everyone else wants to see it, so why spoil it for themselves and for everyone around them by acting selfishly and inconsiderately? It shouldn't be anything to do with how much money people have - manners cost nothing.
Why not try The Showroom. It's "chav" free. The place is run by people who are actually interested in film and the people who go there are there to watch the film. I've never had a problem there and I've been there many times. Ok, you won't get the typical Hollywood blockbuster there, but that can only be a good thing.

On the same point. Did anyone see the traffic cop programme a couple of weeks ago when a couple of women were pushing a baby up the Parkway. They had missed the last bus and were walking home. "Home" turned out to be in Rotherham. Not only that but it wasn't their child. Utter disbelief !!!!!!

Well in the context of the above cinema example ... you make good points.
I was responding more to your other comments on this thread ... where you expanded upon the above cinema example ...

You do seem to generalise and make derogatory comments.
Maybe you can't reason with them because 'reasoning' is just another (albeit subtler) form of violence whereby you seek to impose your views / will on another being ... and they're not having any of your verbal trickery mr t020 !?
These 'chavs' may not be in the same fortunate position in life as you or I ... and while I should image we are both good law abiding citizens (because it suits us to be so) ... these 'chavs' may be more lawless because it suits them to be that way (and to survive).
I'm not judging you here t020. I am just as guilty as you are of sitting in a warm comfortable home and pondering what life must be like for those less fortunate than me.
Have a nice day
But what advantage does anti-social behaviour bring to them?

It would depend on the situation t020.
For example, non payment of road tax / car insurance / MOT, will benefit them with a saving of money, and also the time taken to fill out forms.
Better still, if they just steal someone elses car, then it doesn't matter if they crash it, plus, no need to purchase fuel and maintain car.
Of course there are also disadvantages in the above scenario.
For a well respected member of society like yourself t020, it would be unwise to engage in such activity, because you would only damage your reputation if caught (maybe losing your job, depending on the crime).
So while some people would have more to lose, other people ('chavs') may not have anything to lose, and have everything to gain from anti-social behaviour, so why shouldn't they prosper !?
Although having said that, they may do better to educate and refine themselves and carve out a nice career for themselves, or maybe not, maybe that is just not feasable for some people.
I hope the above also sheds some light on my views that people just do what's best for them in the situation they find themself in life.
What is good (read: beneficial) behaviour for a well off / rich person is not good for a poor uncultured yob / 'chav'.
Yes I can see the benefits of theft and tax evasion since they reap obvious, tangible financial gains. What I can't understand is how talking all the way through a film, congregating on street corners, tagging postboxes and streetlights, etc etc, bring any advantage to the culprit? All they really bring is misery to other people.

Maybe they just feel estranged from the rest of society / angry / upset / whatever when they see other people driving round in porsches etc ... and the kind of behaviour you describe is just how they vent their frustration ... an expression of their anger towards a society they feel has no place for them.
But what do I know !? ... seriously ... I don't.
I have to agree with kittykat the majority of youths today have a total disregard for anyone but themselves. I work with teenagers so I know what they are about. I also have a teenage son ( who is lovely and has been brought up with manners )
I work in a secondary school that is pretty tough and I have heard it all, believe me. Swearing in front of adults is commonplace and respect and manners are far and few between. I'm not saying that all teens are like this because they are not but the vast majority are.
Most of them think the world owes them something and will do anything to get it. Parents are put under pressure from thier kids to deliver and woe betide them if they don't. Underage drinking ( I know some eleven year olds who drink and take drugs and smoke) smoking and lighting up spliffs at break is the norm. One eleven year old boy recently told me he had been given some vodka by his mother to help him sleep because he was 'stressed out'! I know it's unbelievable but nonetheless true. I could go on.
We need to get back to basics and look after our kids, be there for them when they come in from school and check on with who, what and where they are going.

Is the upbringing the reason theyre like they are?? Is there a solution? I doubt anything will be done about it and no doubt we can expect progressive worsening throughout the generations. Thats something for us all to look forward to!
One theory is just that teens today are spoilt. They expect too much out of this world and being told off just isnt a deterrent. Do you know a teen without an expensive mobile?? Do you know a teen who doesnt have a TV in their room or access to a PC with the internet?
I will hardly ever go to the cinema unless its the Showroom because of the "youngsters"
Its not just little scumbags who talk, swear, play with phone etc (and its got nothing to do with social situation. Having no money does not automaticly make you ignorant) Bad parenting, a lack of respect and no discipline are the reasons imo)
also groups of students (especially girls) who think its a chance to gossip and bitch and discuss their personal lives, more than one young Asian (sorry but call me racist (and you will) but in groups they are incapable of being quiet.
Baseball caps should be banned, groups of more than 3 people and having a mobile on during a film should automatically get you banned from a ciinema for life.
I'm a big film fan but it is not worth my while to go to chav-ridden cinemas....
oh and some young couple were caught having sex in UGC a few weeks ago. What romantic film stirred their ardour? Aliens vs Predator
who says youngsters have no class...

Agreed. The lack of money is used as an excuse IMO. Teaching kids the difference between right and wrong, how to respect and consider others, etc etc, costs absolutely nothing.
ToryCynic 14-11-2004, 22:55 That is one of my pet-hates, annoying teens wrecking the film as they find it 'cool' to wind-up the people that paid; finding it amusing to either:
It seems some of their favourites include:
a) Let's waste credit.
This is where they pointlessly text each other "Ah yeah, I got a
f***in g text off ya, aggghhh, what' the point Kel."
b) "How good is my ringtone" This is where you annoy those that want to watch the movie, get treated to some cretinous moron known as Usher, and his latest tune... just what you want... "Nah, bu' I got so and so's latest tune"
c) Generally talk:
This is a great game - it seems you have to talk loudly, preferably talking about something that not everyone wishes to hear!

my problem is the entire opposite, each time i have visited the ugc
my entertainment is ruined by the back of my seat being constantly kicked. and more often than not when i turn round its always an adult male. 20s or 30s. not kids or teenager's.
as there is loads of leg room in there, the seats are big and plush
there is no need to do this at all. just selfish.
.
ToryCynic 14-11-2004, 23:06 Ah yes, the UGC - in the area where Burger King, the bowling place is etc.?
They have big seats - why have pillocks kick your seat for no reason is beyond me...
When I go to the UGC my relatives and I are usualy down the front - it seems the trouble-making teens like the back.
I'm surprised they haven't started screwing up paper balls and blowing them through straws - best not give them ideas...

Is that why the cartons are so large?
So, you're 18 months old and just beginning to explore the world about you and somebody you call 'Mum' plonks you in front of the TV and leaves you there 'til you're five and can go to school.
Teachers have their hands tied behind their backs and are obliged to be polite to your whims and later expletives and violence. Your oldest friend (the TV) informs you in every program you watch (Trisha, X-factor, pop idols, eastenders) of 'your rights' (directly or subliminally) and you live in an environment where your worth is calculated by how much your trainers cost, or what you bought at the weekend.
Children are no longer 'brought up'. Nobody talks to them. They're 'entertained' rather than invited to take part.
I know that doesn't solve the cinema problem. I'd have demanded a refund or a free ticket for another night. Or knowing me I'd have demanded that the loudest be ejected - they're usually the fuel for the fire.

Maybe they are just shy individuals and they've been overwhelmed by your looks and are desperately trying to attrack your attention without actually seeming to do it on purpose.
Tara... Please stop kicking my seat
