Hey all,

I'm looking for some advice on getting a new game for the XBOX 360, as I've read a few reviews on various sites, but nothing really beats hands on gaming from other gamers.

I have to be careful when I get a game as I can't really afford a new one very often so it's gotta be worth it.

ANyway, I'm looking for a 360 game, with a load of playtime but doesn't need 100% concentration, as I'm a casual gamer. A similar genre to Saints Row / GTA series preferred or similar to Gears of War. No sports or first person shooters. Anyone got any suggestions?

I've heard mixed reviews for Crackdown, some saying it's great, others picking up on driving/shooting issues.

Thanks!

Dave

PS - To give you an insight into my gaming preference I'll tell you the games I have, Gears of War, N3 Ninety Nine Nights and Saints Row (this is getting swapped tho for whichever game I decide on)

I really like Crackdown. Like you mentioned, the driving isn't great but it's no worse than similar games. There is a loose plot to it but you could have fun just taking the various driving/agility challenges and other stuff without even attempting the main targets. The game world feels really big and the graphics are excellent.

Another I think is good is Tomb Raider Legend, some bits do require concentration though. On the plus side you can get it for £13 in HMV. It's not the longest of Tomb Raider games I am already about half way through after about 10 hours playing.

Get Oblivion - it will take you 100 hours to explore see and do everything, and can be easily played in hour long chunks then picked up again.

Oblivion does look a really good game, I am shortly getting it for the PS3, however a few people have told me its not a pick up and play game, meaning they find they have to play it a couple of hours or more each time :)

Yeah, I've got that on the PC. I'm looking for an XBOX game as my gf takes up the PC a lot for Uni, so I find myself either brain training on the DS, watching crappy terrestrial (sp?) tv or re-playing my current games.

Well apart from that the best game I have played is Rainbow Six Vegas. The storyline and single player is gripping, and if you like tactical FPS action you can't go wrong.

It's not easy peasy though, but you get better with practice.

The multiplayer really shines if you have X-Box Live Gold.

REVIEW ABOVE - Was more fun than Gears of War if you ask me!

That's the problem - it IS a pick up and play game, but once you have picked it up it's nigh on impossible to put it down.

It's like Command and Conquer, or Civilisation. You say "I'll only go on for an hour" and the next thing you know it's 2am and you have to get up for work in the morning.

Elder Scrolls for 17.50 is an absolute bargain. I would pay double for that and still be satisfied. Immense game.

I know you said no sports games, but Virtua Tennis 3 rocks IMO! Even better than Top Spin 2 in my opinion, but that's cos the achievements on it are easier to do, I'd only had it a week when I first got it and I'd already done 6 out of 50 achievements on it.

And it has online play as well, a feature the PS3 version lacks.

Give it a rest, Rich. The OP was asking specifically about 360 games, so wouldn't give a tinkers cuss about the PS3 online capabilities! What need is there to dig at Sony every time someone mentions consoles? Were you abused by a Sony rep when you were younger or something? That is the only reason I can think of for your one-man-zealot crusade against them.

has the pinball game got a time travel table/big green crystal in the centre? (from the dreamcast pinball game)?

as for recommending a 360 game- geometry wars utter quality, or another vote for oblivion

No it doesn't. The 3 tables are based on motor racing, secret agents and 'Xtreme' sports. Good fun though, even if the achivement points are a bitch!

I heartily recomment Dead Rising. Fantastic game, great fun. Annoying saves and game mode until you complete it the first time when other options become available.

But driving a golf ball into a zombies face, superb :)
