What are peoples opinions on D Notices been issued?

It seems to me that they can be abused.

The criteria by which D Notices are issued are extremely vague and virtually unknown to the public.

The people who make these decisions are unknown, the manner of their decision-making is also unknown, and they appear to hold their meetings in secret.

Yeah, it's a catch-all for "we don't want this published", but I don't know what the precise mechanism is.

Commonly known as a gagging order - is there any incident in particular, or just curious?

Well, now you come to mention it Phan there was something on my mind but I'm unable to substantiate it as it's just a rumour at the moment.

I'm intrigued.

D-Notices do attract their own kind of attention in themselves though, and what usually happens is that the offending report is published elsewhere on the continent.

The rumour revolves around the Big issue and death of Fusilier Gentle in Iraq.
