Hi, not been to Hersonnios but been to Stalis in Crete and it was lovely!
A couple in the same apartments as us went to Hersonnisos and they said it was really nice. I love Greece, the people and the pace of life are great. We going to book for October. Hope you have a great time.:)
I've been, scary as hell if you're a pedestrian..Beach is a naff

"Hersonnisos"
Sounds like a Chinese version of a certain local relish!

My other half went in the 80,s so it is probably different now she says it was full of very drunken Scandinavians also as another poster said very busy traffic running straight through it .
But she enjoyed it at the time. says it is a place for the young.

We went a couple of years ago. It's lively but not as mad as Malia a few miles up the road (which is very 18 - 30's). As other posters have said, the main coast road runs through the centre of town - it's busy but not quite the M1 by any means. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants, but not that much else to do apart from sunbathe.
The best beach is left of the town centre as you face the sea with good sand and bars and cafes above it - the one to the right is shingle and not that nice. You must go to Vesuvius restaurant - down a little sidestreet with a gorgeous courtyard with old trees and lamps - the food is excellent - avacado and prawns to die for. The best bar we found is next to the Starlight restaurant on the main street - can't remember the name now but the cocktails were fab. Don't go to eat at the Starlight - the food is not so good - the steaks are large but not nice.
All in all a nice little resort - have a good time.

i too went in the 80s,and was in an hotel up a very long steep hill, you can imagine i wasnt impressed having to walk up that in all the heat,so we tended to just stay round the pool in the day and venture into the town at night,it was an ok place but not somewhere i would return too.

If you are over 25 don't touch with a barge pole. Every time you go past a bar or a restaurant some one will try and drag you in - literally by grabbing you or your partners arm.
This happens every time and I mean every time you walk down the main drag.
It got so bad we totally avoided the area and found a little bar run by a Dutch couple which was great.
