Thought it might be a good idea to try and compile a list of activities/groups that kids can access during the summer holidays.

I have a 9 year old brother who is already bored stiff so any suggestions would be great!

I'm thinking more of free outdoor activities or cheap youth groups. My mum is a single mum and so really can't afford to pay for my brother to go to a leisure centure everyday.

Ermmmm there's loads to do!
well here's a few to get you started :D

Queens Road Ice rink (Old fashioned and smelly, but such a good laugh)

Bowling (theres loads of places to go bowling, you just have to pick a place close enough to you)

Cinema (as I said with bowling, there's loads of places to go and its just you're personal preference which is the decider)

Swimming (the fun pool at Ponds forge would be perfect for your 9 year old brother)

A walk in Derbyshire (Probably not much for your brother but its free, you could take a picnic and make a day of it)

A trip to the seaside (could work out expensive but it's fine when the weathers good)

You could even get your brother to dog walk for the neighbours and earn himself a few quid!

This is a really old thread however I know I for one would appreciate some Up to date ideas for the upcoming holidays. There always seems to be some good activities/events that we seem to hear about afterwards, hopefully this thread might help us get to some.
Maybe a mod could sticky this (in Sheff dicussions or maybe Going Out) so people can add and see what is going on easier.

Did you realise that Derbyshire Council has FREE Swim 4 Life??

www.ne-derbyshire.gov.uk

Dronfield & Eckington baths are certainly FREE for under 16's just fill in a form and get your card, it don't matter if you live Yorkshire side of the border! OK you have to transport your kids there, but they can have hours of FREE swim!

The free swimming sessions will be packed and by the time you've paid for travel you'd have a better time spending the money in Sheffield swimming venues. The free swim sessions seem to attract every sort, if I'm being polite, and I'd rather feel safer in one of the Sheffield Venues. They seem to offer a better experience being larger swimming venues with more features and other services available while you're there.

when I was 9 we lived at the swimming pool in the holidays. can't remember what age we were when we were allowed to go on our own, before that my friends gran would take us, she would swim lengths while we were in the leisure pool. !!...Ah those were the days of no worry and what burger to have when we were dry and dressed.
