Right I've got nothing against smokers. But what does get my goat is those people waiting to get on a bus where they know they can't smoke, but they inhale the biggest draw they possibly can just before they get on, then breath it right in your face when they're on the bus! You're left sitting in a cloud of smoke.

For f**cks sake, they may as well smoke on the bus? People do this when getting in cars too…..pah!

Is it just me or does this bother anyone else?

I have one word for you my friend - Trams...

They just kick anyone off they find somking.

The only downside being, they dont cover all of the city

Yeah but theyre not smoking on the bus...they just inhale massively, chuck the fag as they get on at the last minute, then exhale in your face when theyve got on the bus.....rrghhhhh

it happened VERY recently, hence the whinge....and it bloody stank. Dirty old scroat.

I couldn't agree more.

The other thing that happens is bus drivers and tram conductors smoking just outside the bus/tram with the doors wide open.

How about the drivers who sit at their route terminus/on tea break/awaiting start of timetable ect, dragging away to their hearts content! ON THE BUS!:shakes::roll:
Tis true you know, I've seen it.

you don't smoke either because you don't want too, or you're not allowed too. They probably figure that being self employed and in their own car, you can always choose to walk.

I don't like it either, i normally just wind the window down and lean towards it.

Back to the original post, try it from my point of view as a bus driver. It must happen 10 times a day, every day. They see the bus coming, drag on the fag like it is their last, them two lungs full of second hand filth straight in my face.
I always thank them for it,just to show I am not ungrateful!!!

Also,I take the tram point of view,if anyone lights up on my bus, they have a sudden need to walk the rest of the way home. The most annoying ones are people who know that they are only on the bus a few minutes, but still light one up,because they know that they shouldn't.

Bring on the ban that the Jocks have got,is what I say.

If you see a bus driver smoking on a bus they can be reported here (www.vosa.gov.uk)

You need to give details of fleet number (written on front of bus), route number, time, date and a brief description of what happened.

What IS obscene is when grown ups are puffing away on their cancer sticks in the front of the car and there are nippers in the back having to breathe all their crap in.

I wonder what people will find to moan about once smoking is banned in public.

My guesses are :

1. "inapropriate" facial hair
2. Laughing
3. Talking too loud
4. Wearing bright colours
5. Wearing shoes that click on the pavement as you walk

are you not in favour of a smoking ban then? Or do you think that your list of things will somehow affect your health in a way analogous to 2nd hand smoke?

I couldn't care less.
The chances of passive smoking killing me are so small as to be negligable.

My point was that once smoking has been banned what will be next ?

The most obviouse choice is traffic polution, but thats an essential part of life apparantly.

are the chances so small because you avoid smoky places? If not then you might be underestimating them.

there isn't always a 'next'. I can't think of another 'habit' that can directly cause harm to someone else, otherwise i suppose that would be next.

I'm sure there will be other things to address, pollution from cars is one, although banning them is not an option.

I only avoid realy smokey places.

I'm fairly sure that a ban on public smoking will not significantly increase my life expectancy though as there are lots of other things that were more likely to kill me anyway.

I would imagine some kind of accident, like a car crash, getting hit by the proverbial bus, choking on a crisp. That kind of thing.

But I suppose some other kind of cancer, skin cancer, testicular cancer, prostate cancer could get me.

I go aborad so perhaps malaria, typhoid, yellow fever ?

I don't lay awake worrying about these thing BTW :0)

Please don't think I'm a control freak but surely people could be breathalysed before they get on a bus or tram ? Obviously people in cars should be banned from smoking. All these people could be locked up and counselled.
The problem remains of those who persist in smoking in their own homes.
Surely,a sort of mini-speed camera could be set up in each room and within minutes of these addicts lighting up, the Nicotine Squad could swoop and drag them away.
I've nothing against having a jolly good time as long as it doesn't involve smoking, drinking, eating, taking drugs or indulging in subversive talk or thoughts and sneering at the government.

Tell that to Roy Castle (oh! can't - he's dead from cancer caused by passive smoking). But less dramatically, it's the impudence of smokers who don't have a thought about the STINK they are causing to everyone around them. "Couldn't care less" - that's the attitude that most smokers have.

Uncleheed - I hadn't thought of smokers blowing their last gasp on you (the bus driver) as they ask for their fare. I'm impressed that you "thank them" for it and sorry you have to endure it.

If people were more polite and sad thankyou as they they flashed there pass then they would exhale the smoke out well before they reached the seat.

I hate it when your stood in a line at the bus stop and people infront of you puff away ..that goes straight in your face ..so i make a point of coughing then stand away from the stop !!

I once saw a man and women in a car, baby seat in the back both smoking away with all the windows up aaaahhhh
