View Full Version : Wood preservative Nyx 10-11-2004, 09:55 does anyone know of anything i can put in my shed as it absolutely reeks of wood preservative, i`ve tired cut onions as i know this works with paint but it`s not having any effect on the preserve steevie/d 10-11-2004, 10:25 if you used creasote m8 it will take ages you dont say what you used i use shed and fence care from morrisons abt£5 a tin dont stink either good luck steve Nyx 10-11-2004, 10:53 i used the same shed and fence care that you did, unfortunately the shed was supplied pre treated and with what i have no idea but it`s not creosote i can tell ya that but it sure reeks!! Skatiechik 10-11-2004, 12:39 Better to have it treated and reeking, rather than to buy a new shed every two years because its rotten. Nyx 10-11-2004, 13:45 no good for small animals over winter tho they`d be dead in half an hour Skatiechik 10-11-2004, 14:08 If you have got small animals in the shed, I would suggest you have a hole somewhere ;) and it needs covering up (unless you keep rabbits of course) Nyx 10-11-2004, 23:22 there arn`t any in it yet and it dosen`t look like there ever will be at this rate, just nipped out to have a look at it and it`s horrible!! ugh!! i need a peg on my nose!! mr.blaze 10-11-2004, 23:56 Get something Industrial on it. Try contacting a company like ronseal and ask their advice coz they make most of the noxious things you can apply to wood. Good luck. And let us know the outcome. I'm not usually this stumped for a DIY type answer! Nyx 11-11-2004, 23:41 i think i`ll try to give them a call tomorrow, at the moment it`s got cut potatoes and onions in it lol and it still reeks am going to try another suggestion too which is to paint the inside with the same stuff i did the outside with and that may help. Fingers crossed! Strix 12-11-2004, 00:21 Hope that doesn't make it stink more  Nyx 12-11-2004, 00:28 i thought the onions would make it smell really awful but you don`t even notice they`re in there, the stuff i did the outside in dosen`t have any smell at all and is great, i just wish the people who made it hadn`t treated it first:mad: Strix 12-11-2004, 00:34 Don't take this the wrong way.... but - why didn't you buy something different then? It's probably that stuff that stops bugs and fungus from eating your shed, so it sounds pretty essential. :shakes: Nyx 12-11-2004, 00:41 Originally posted by Strix why didn't you buy something different then? : as in what i needed a shed so i got a shed  vidster 12-11-2004, 00:42 Originally posted by steevie/d if you used creasote m8 it will take ages you dont say what you used i use shed and fence care from morrisons abt£5 a tin dont stink either good luck steve Creosote is now illegal. You could'nt buy it now even if you wanted to! Strix 12-11-2004, 00:47 Nah, Dial, an untreated shed! Sorry if I've miffed you off. It must be quite annoying not having anywhere for your critters after you've spent so much money. It must be quite annoying not having anywhere for your critters after you've spent so much money. nope not miffed lol just frustrated cos there MUST be a way of gettin rid of the smell, can`t moan too much really as a relative helped me out and got it ,paid for it and had it delivered and put up for me and i only have to pay back bits as i can afford it. am not gonna let it beat me even if i have to take the roof off to air it:D rlara 12-11-2004, 00:58 make mud patties and smudge it all over the walls, leave it to dry for a week or two, you'll be able to move the pets in - well, that's a theory of mine - let me know if it works. :-) rlara 12-11-2004, 01:02 forgot to mention don't stick the soil back in the ground - scrape it off and bin it, it's possibly full of cryanotes (cyanide treatments) which can kill plants and birds etc. really could be harmful to your pets if you don't sort it. most preservatives are made with cryanotes - I read up on it on the net when I was treating fences, I used a non-toxic treatment safe for pets & plants. Kids are ok if they don't get on their hands and lick it - but I've never seen them licking the fences :-P rlara 12-11-2004, 01:10 cyanotes i mean, don't know how the r slipped in there. Nyx 18-11-2004, 13:17 i have just finished painting the inside of the shed with the whiff free stuff i`ll post as soon as i know it`s made any difference |
