When I open internet explorer a window pops up saying "VT04.exe - Entry point not found. The procedure entry point WSCUpdateProvider could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll" and whilst IE is open the computer is working constantly making more and more processes in Task Manager all called "VT04.exe" . In a matter of minutes there are hundreds of them. I cant end the VT04.exe application cos it just pops up again with more error windows.

I have run adaware and hijack this but foubd nothing suspicious. Remeber, I only get this window when I open IE.

Any help appreciated.

AGH! I've tried all that already. Didn't work i'm afraid.

Need a clean view as to what's up.

From what little I could find about the problem it looks like adaware or spybot have identified the program, that this file is a part of, as a spyware util...

Unfortunately the cleaning process often doesn't delete all the relevant entries and leaves stuff in the registry that needs clearing out. It certainly looks like that's what's happened here...

If you know what it was that you installed, assuming you actually installed anything and weren't tricked somehow... I would try reinstalling the utility again and then using add/remove to uninstall it properly.

If that doesn't work then you could try using EasyCleaner to check the registry to see if that provides any related links that have been orphaned...

AGH! Still no joy. Anybody else have an idea before I re-format my hard-disk?

Fraid not...

At best it sounds like you have something that's tied into your Internet Explorer registry settings that calls your missing utility...

Finding out where it is would be something of a headache though...

I'd offer to help directly but I'm moving house this weekend so it's frantic packing and the like at the moment...

I would try a system restore - turn this off then reboot your machine - go back to system restore and turn back on again and reboot again -

once this is done then run your AVG or anti virus then you adaware programs.

you may still get the WS2_32.dll error this file is missing from the system32 folder i belive -

but see how you get on with the system restore first

A system restore will only return a PC to its settings on a previous restoration point, if the file is missing or corrupt you will still get this error...

Oh boy...

Well... if you're still sane, well -ish, later next week, drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do to help... No free mind, but the way you're going the therapy charges could end up costing a whole lot more... :D
