I'm a 28 year old female with a responsible job and I am quite sensible yet I have a yearning for a Nintendo DS so I can play that cute Animal Crossings game. Can I play with other people if no one else I know would ever even dream of buying a games console? I currently play the Sims 2 on my computer and also like the puzzle games on my mobile phone to fill bored half hours...are Nintendo DS' worth the money or would I be disappointed?

What can I do with it? Can I use it as an organiser to make it a more sensible "present" to myself?

No, you wouldn't be dissappointed.

DS has some excellent games well worth the money, are you a fan of cute little puppies etc? If so the Nintendogs series could be for you, bit expensive for a virtual pet at £29.99 IMO but it is addictive.

There's also stuff like New Super Mario Bros and Yoshi's Island DS, top platforming action.

In fact for a few DS game reviews, read my Blog, there's a link to it in my sig, I'm planning to update it with more reviews when I've got a spare 10 minutes to do so.

Yes you do want one. In fact you need one.

And no, you can't do anything sensible with it like using it as organiser - where is the fun in that? :nono: :)

The days when only kids played computer games and consoles are long long gone. Just buy it!

Im a 33 year old bloke with a responsible job, and I am quite sensible, and ive got a DS, and a PSP. Just get one, dont worry about what people think.

You can play Animal Crossing online with people from all over the world if you have a wireless router to connect to, Brain Training has Sudoku puzzles on it, thats quite sensible. And my wife is addicted to Zoo Keeper.

Funny, I am looking to buy a game boy micro for travelling on holiday. Its half the price but probably half as good as well(!) It is nice and pink though. Yay!

I read somewhere that it can play music files.

If anyone can clarify this, would be appreciated! x

Get one! You know you want one! They're loads of fun :)

You can play all the daft games plus those brain training ones, and that 42 Game compendium will keep you going for hours on end. You can also get Sims 2 though it's nothing like PC sims, it's a flippin' platform game! :(

I think you can get an internet browser for them too? I wonder if it's any good?

And you could get a pink one with pink accessories if you want to be really silly! :D

A complex game like The Sims wouldn't work on a handheld IMO.

That being said though, I'd love to see a DS version of Lemmings! Well there's a PSP version so why not a DS one?

It looks pretty good, and you can customise a character and all that malarkey, but it's a platform and definitely NOT the Sims we all know and love (love a bit too much...ahem). It's not a free ranging game, nor can you get creative and build amazing lots or construct storylines. It's fun, but not the Sims!

It is good to play games to help relax. I have a PS2, PS3 and I'm thinking of getting a PSP.

We all play games on our PC's at work.

We tend to play the hiden object games that seem to be all the rage on game websites at the moment.

Although the girls in the office are playing a game about a Grandma aswell.

And that's my point, stuff like The Sims just doesn't work on anything other than a PC.

The DS version of Theme Park wasn't too bad though, I just want them to release Theme Hospital DS.

If you get a homebrew kit (like a Supercard or M3) you can use it to watch videos, play music, read comics, 'organise' stuff (diary, files, etc) and draw things. And other things too.

I rarely use mine for gaming now I've got a homebrew setup.

I got a couple of DS Lites for my kids.
I made sure I spent a good couple of weeks 'testing' them out before they were given them.

I quite like the 'interactive book' type of games, such as Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, Hotel Dusk etc.

I can recommend the R4DS card if you want to get into the homebrew side of things.

What kind of games are you into? Maybe we can suggest some good 'uns..

I've just bought Pokemon Ranger, I was in Tesco this morning and it was a toss up between that or Diddy Kong Racing DS, I ended up wishing I'd bought the Diddy Kong game, wonder if Tesco'll let me nip back and swap it? I've still got the reciept.

Diddy Kong Racing is also rubbish. Why would anyone NOT want to play Mario Kart?

I buy games based on reviews, and I read a good review of the Pokemon game last week.

whats the difference between a ds and a ds lite?

If someone has offered me a free ds will that satisfy me? Can I still play animal crossing?

whats the difference between a ds and a ds lite?

The DS Lite is basically a smaller, lighter and brighter remake of the original DS.

They play the same games.

Go for the ds lite. With the first ds, Ninty made a few design errors, the first ds is an ugly brute compared to the ds lite. The brighter screen is worth forking out for on it's own. I don't play games anymore but it doesn't take a bright spark to realise which is a far better machine, aesthetically anyway.

There's some evidence to show that the DS Lites are prone to cracking along the right-hand hinge. I've only ever seen pictures of this on white DS Lites - Might be worth steering clear of white ones. :(

We've got a pink and a white DSL - The plastic used for the pink one seems to flex a bit more than the white. It seems to have more 'give', whilst the white plastic seems more brittle.
