View Full Version : Mouse Traps that dont kill the mouse?
My naughty little kitties have caught another mouse and it is well and truly stuck behind out fitted cupboard things. Its beyond being conned out with cheese.
I really don't want it to die (although if it does we're getting a new kitchen fitted in a couple of weeks so we wont have to pull the cupboards out ourselves) does anybody know if you can get a mousetrap which doesn't kill the mouse, and saves it from being killed by my cats too!
Don't know if I can save this one but it'd be great for future use as I've spent too many hours looking under washing machines/ fridges etc.
Thanks :)

Awww, that's awful. :( It would have been better off with a broken neck. :(
x_Sunshine_x, if you get one, remember to leave it where you can see it. :)
lizzmobile 24-04-2007, 21:12 I know, t'was not my finest hour. What an evil ethical eco vegetarian hippy person I am :(
sTaGeWaLkEr 24-04-2007, 21:12 ahhhh, incarcerated in it's own plastic prison!
:(
Good point though Lizz, they need to be checked regularly, otherwise mousey will die a slow and painful death as a result of starvation.
babychickens 24-04-2007, 21:18 actually, it's teh dehydration taht gets them, not starvation. if you want to use a humane trap, be sure to put a small pot of water (like a rinsed out lid from a bottle of coke or something similar, but not too big otherwise the stooopid mouse will sit in it and freeze to death) in it, and a couple of raisins (or other dried fruit). that'll keep a mouse going for a day or two, but you should check teh trap at least once per day, ideally twice or more.
discodown 24-04-2007, 21:23 Or just kill the foul vermin. Nothing more satisfying than hearing the snap of the trap

It's lucky you're not a mouse then, isn't it, Disco>?

If you are so attached to them, why do you want to catch them.
You will eventually become immune to their urine and dropping, and the smell will not bother you.
You will be at one with them.
You could pretend that you were in a Cinderella land of mouse footmen and horses.
These hallucinations being brought on by eating food contaminated by mouse urine and faeces :hihi:
You should have watched the Graham Norton show - they discussed humane mouse traps in some detail. And it was most entertaining.
But what on earth are you going to do with it if you do catch it alive? If you just pop it outside, it will probably come back in again. If you release it into the wild, it will probably starve to death or become the victim of a predator.
On the whole, it's probably just kinder to kill it quickly with the old-fashioned type of mouse trap.
Dozy
Corr_Blimey 24-04-2007, 23:15 Loads of places sell humane mice traps.
The tricky bits getting the thing out as they're clearly terrorfied and grip wedge their feet against the side when you're trying to get them out!
give it to cat, its enviromentally friendly and saves you money

Before i come to visit you i'll chew through her cables and cause pandemonium!:hihi: :hihi:
You can buy these in Middletons - I got one after those meeses got into my house. But I didn't need it as if cats know there is a mouse about they will not rest until they have 'dealt' with it. :o

Cheese only works in cartoons. Try bacon fat or chocolate.
purdyamos 25-04-2007, 19:00 When I was a kid I wondered if anyone had ever tried catching a real mouse with this. (http://csmt.msstate.edu/html/LearnToWork/projects/Kinematics/MouseTrap.gif)
Come to think of it, I'm in my thirties and I still wonder. :help:

Oh god well I think it must still be there, although we can't see it.
And still alive, as there was a mousedropping near the hole where it's trapped! Poor thing, I'll try Pets at Home at the weekend, I'd love to save it!
Just hope it doesn't die, my poor kitchen fitters!

i find a quick kick across the kitchen noramlly stuns a mouse, as long as your quick enough to the mouse than the cat you'll be fine :hihi: :hihi:
BasilRathbon 27-04-2007, 12:41 If, like me, you've had mice get into your house, chew through your cables and cause damage that cost nearly £100 to repair, you wouldn't be too fussed about being humane with the evil little creatures!
