Not only was I late back for work, but one Saturday I was late for a match at the lane, thanks to a young lady dressed (or not!!) as a silk purse (more rhyming slang).
The memory of it helped me through many of those awkward teenage nights.
the hoffenbrau was great ,i also fell off a table ,we then used to go straight on to scamps next door ,they were great nights out

I lost my stripper virginity there.
I was with a mate that suggested we pop in for a burger and a pint.
Never mentioned these little devils to me.
So picture the scene. An 18 year old lad just about to take a chomp out of his grease burger when some lass turns in on stage dressed as a schoolgirl with a whip.
I missed my gob with the burger. :o

So she helped you become a merchant banker. :hihi:
I had my first night out in sheffield there (what an education!)- it was at its peak in the late seventies- once got thrown out cos we went in without paying and the bouncer noticed!! Never went in again.
It was scamps- but had lots of names before and after that!
commongirl 23-09-2006, 19:41 I can just about remember my hen night and dancing on the tables , great night out .
Jabberwocky 23-09-2006, 19:51 I used to bloody love it there! Steins of ale, loose drunken totty, it was like a slice of heaven!
i could have sworn it was samanthas next door, mindst you 70's is a drunken haze
No it wasn't Samathas, it was the Penny Farthing, then it changed it's name to Scamps.
me-and-pippo 23-09-2006, 22:43 Used to have a trek round at dinner time now and again, a game of snooker not quite sure of the name a hall nr. Cambidge St somewhare. Then down to the 'hoffenbrau'
for a stien or two and watch the big dippers. The funny thing is use to wake up next day with an aching wrist, and was never quite sure if it was the snooker or lifting stiens of lager that caused it :( :hihi:
:) yep, remember it well, all us young guys standin round tryin 2 look cool avin 2 hold the stein with 2 hands[so heavy] then seein the waitresses runnin round with 3 in each hand-lol.the club next door was the penny farthing.any 1 rember the genevieve club just up the road from the bier kellar.
p.s.werent there 2 bier kellars in sheff the other 1 bein up near the hole in the road,or is this my to many stein affected memory.
Yes there was one on the High Street
Spooky coincidence - my Mum was just showing me a picture of me (I guess around 17/18 year old) sitting at a table in that very Beer Kellar - that would have been around 1971
It later became Crazy Daizys - I dont think Sheffield could stand TWO beer kellars and as the one off the Moor was huge I am guessing the one on the High Street changed its direction ( or went bust) because I dont remember it being that big
:) yo m8,nice 1,thought there was 2 kellars,cheers,or should i say prohst-lol.

Wow what memories that brings back. The Hoffenbrau and the Pennyfarthing next door. Had some great times in both places. I even spent my Hen night there. Fantastic night out what I can remember of it.
smileyjiver 15-03-2007, 21:01 Used to go regularly. Stonking night. My friend had her hen party there - great fun.
Yet another place I worked as a 'bouncer', as I remember it was utter chaos, but a brilliant atmosphere, everyone used to get totally p*ssed, but thankfully (while I worked there), very little trouble broke out.
Happy days.
Hey Datal. You werent one of the bouncers who threatened to Bar me cos my friends sneaked confetti in on my Hen night in 1975 were you lol lol lol.
i could have sworn it was samanthas next door, mindst you 70's is a drunken haze
samanthas (the old heartbeat ) was above the skating rink on queens road they used to do northern soul all nighters at one bit

Nettie!! I would never have said that to you, but maybe that was the managements policy, I would have said "get in & enjoy yourselves", confetti was the least of their problems at the end of the night, vomit, broken glass, L plates, blown up condoms & kiss me quick hats etc used to be scattered everywhere so a little confetti was no problem surely.
Anyway I hope your still happily married.
Datal.
sixsigma 17-03-2007, 23:32 Can I remember the Hoffenbrau.....True bl***y true I can. Every day I am reminded cause I met the wife there. Far too many stiens!!!

CARPAINTER 25-03-2007, 22:50 i used to go past the hoffenbrau every saturday after my mum would drag me round sheffield doing the shopping always wondering what the big woodern circles on the front were and as we were from rotherham my mother hadnt a clue either,or she was just playing dumb, but my wife who is 6 years older than me remembers it well, was one of her haunts as well as the craisy daisy and the limit to nme but a few, just to think as i was walking past all those years ago,she was probably inside kopin off with some geezer, err, then again best not to think about the missus like that is it.
went to the one in blackpool one lunch time and slept it off on the beach that beer was strong lol
rubydazzler 25-03-2007, 23:41 my first husband was an assistant manager there in the mid 70s and he said they just used to get the hoses out and sluice the entire floor down after closing ... :gag:
I never actually went in there myself but I heard some real tales about what went on there .... and I'm only now realising at this late stage why I wasn't allowed :help:

weren't the circles meant to be the ends of beer barrels or something?
Tillman:- yes it became "Dingwall's Rhythm and Booze" IIRC
CARPAINTER 26-03-2007, 22:40 yeah apparently they were supposed to be the end of beer kegs
rubydazzler 26-03-2007, 22:54 Probably because you would have corrupted the men Rubes ;)
I don't know why you would say that, owdlad
I think there was definitely some corrupting going on between a certain person and certain other people, but it was definitely nothing to do with me :suspect:
Did it turn into Dingwall's afterwards?
Yep I think so.Thats the first time I saw the band Vision and the band the ex bassist out of ABC joined
the hoffenbrau was great ,i also fell off a table ,we then used to go straight on to scamps next door ,they were great nights out
My mum used to be a cleaner at Scamps during the 70's and I can remember going with her on a Saturday morning and thinking it was so cool to be in a nightclub (albeit in the daylight!) well, I was about 8/9 at the time! I can also remember going next door to the Hoffenbrau with my mum to borrow cleaning stuff and it used to fascinate me that the cleaners in there used to stand on the long tables and mop them! :loopy: I can still see them mops - absolutely scruffy!!! :hihi:
John1954 28-03-2007, 08:11 Wasn't it called the Hofbrauhaus?

gary in NZ 27-07-2007, 12:35 Yeh remember that place, late 70's hard rock, dope, plastic glasses of beer, ****** oohh yeh you bet. Same crowd used to go to the Improvision on a Sunday night at the old (bugger don't remember the name of the night club) just up off pond st. Awesome bands there, including Joe Coker on regular basis.
Shazza_3 28-07-2007, 12:49 Hiya, new to this site. I remember hoffenbrau and the crazy daisy. We used to start off in the blue bell on high street, dove and rainbow, golden ball and the hen and chickens, then up to the three tons. Loved crazy daisy was a regular! Sang on stage too LOL
I worked there for all of a day, with 3 steins in your hand all you could do if someone tried to go up your skirt ( very short )was to pour the steins over their head. The manager did not approve ( very short employment )
billyhill 03-08-2007, 07:50 At the end of my first year of teaching in Sheffield I went with some of my Sheffield mates to the Hofbrauhausfor the first time to see the lunchtime stripper
