I hear that the promoters of this night are quite aggressive when in town. They'll put a poster up on your building, and then when they see you take it down (no permission asked), the poster putter upper threatens to "rip your face off" if he sees you take another one down...

You see they were VERY VERY upset when posters went up outside their venue. So much so they were ripped down within minutes of going up.

And I know for a fact that Bruce wouldn't ever get upset at that fact, it's not in his nature.

Nothing to do with Dempseys I'm afriad - it was more local to Takapuna, ie, Division Street. He was totally rude and overly aggressive, and really not the way to treat neighbours in the same business. But I do now hear that Bruce (who wouldn't provide his name at the time when asked) apologised to the person involved the day after, but in my mind, it leaves a sour taste of how Takapuna and its associates go about their business.

I'd never been to a Gay Pub/Club until i moved to Sheffield... I was always told about the good atmosphere... As in the past i have had gay friends...

I went to Climax for the first time back in July with my partner and we really enjoyed ourselves... It was a great night out fab atmosphere so free... Now we go every month...

A gay Club is where gay people can express themselves freely without people getting funny about their sexuality... You will always find a good mix of Bi / Gay / Hetro people in a gay club...

Why deny yourself a great night out because it has the word 'Gay' in a title... :)

Again I find this very very difficult to believe however I wont call you a liar I will query this with Bruce and report back my findings.
It would help if you supplied me with your source (in confidence) via PM.

Bruce even when drunk wouldn't say that sort of thing to anyone, it's not in any way shape or form his nature.

I think I'm definatley going to go now but I'm wondering how dressed up to get? In London an LGB night can be very outrageous but I worry that Sheff will be shocked at some of the outfits in my wardrobe! My wardrobe consists of a mixture of Jodie Marsh's, Jordans & Paris Hilton!

I did set-out in the right direction but went for "a few pints before we get there" and ended-up with a rather drunk boyfriend offering to do all sorts of rude things. So we went home.

Not having been to a Climax night (yet) I have always been told that Climax has a good mix of music.

well, I'm not personally a big fan of 70's 80's pop - it's viable once a month - but havin been the only gay clubby night out in sheffield for so long u'd expect them to play some more underground type music at least in one of the rooms

I like a bit of everything & I don't mind cheesy 70's, 80's or 90's pop! I like all different types of music, it just depends on my mood! I'm looking forward to going regardless as I've never been and the most important thing to me on a night out is the atmosphere. I'll let u know what I think of it after next Friday!!!

I reckon this week will be the real tester. Last week was a little quiet due to bad weather and people saving for Climax the night after.

This week should be much better as the Climax crowd were hit by VIP flyers as they came out of the club and that should hopefully reel a few more people in. I'll be very surprised if it's not the busiest night so far for VIP @ Takapuna. :)

Well I got my answer, it was free when we arrived.

Well what do we think to Takapuna ..... well we loved it, nice place, good music, nice atmosphere and no doubt we will be abck again.

Only problem is the drinks were bloody expensive.

Yeah that's the touble with city centre bars Peter - however I heard tonight that Dempsey's is also stupidly high priced for drink aint it?

Anyway it's either crappy VK bottles or nice Smirnoff (which are more expensive).
We've approached the subject with the management and they are keen to listen and take things like this forward.
However the event is very young so we have to play it by ear I'm afraid.

I have spoken with them today and apparantly there will be some good deals on Reef coming up.
There is still drinks offers on Budwieser and Arches Aqua (last night - £2 a bottle which for a trendy bar like that is good prices).

We'll see how we go and as the night gets more popular and the place fills up Takapuna can afford to put on special offers tailored to VIP.

Dempseys charge about £2.20 a pint.

We were drinking a lager that was on offer, £1.80 a pint, cannot remember what it was, it was nice, then it went to £3, and it was /..... OMG .. lol. But we expected this for a pub on West Street.

Yes we got there for about 8.15 and we stayed to about 11.30ish.

The music kept us there and the pub is very trendy.

I am sure from what I saw it will get better when more people find out about it, and I did notice quite a few guys who normally go do Dempseys were there last night.

As I say u get what you pay for, and the layout of the pub and the seating etc etc is 100% better than we have had in Sheffield for a long time.

That was Coors you were drinking for £1.80 a pint.
Good stuff that, shame the offer only lasts till 9pm :(

However as time progresses and the night gets more and more popular we have scope to negotiate the deals crowd are looking for.

Keep an eye out for the drinks offers stuck up around the bar area next time you come down and stick to them.

We'll find that happy medium believe me ;)

Just to let people know that VIP isn't running next week (i.e. 16th December).
Unfortunately with it being Christmas n all and that we only started running 5 weeks ago (or so) Takapuna already pre-booked Xmas parties.

As a result it would be close to 10.30/11pm before we could get any DJ's (i.e. Greg C / Kirk / Gaz n Neal) kicking out some choonage.
So we've decided to hold off next week and prepare for the Christmas Special of VIP on Thursday 23 December.

I trust you'll all grace us with your presence and come down for some fun n frolics in a state of pure unadulterated delectation :D :thumbsup:

Hey all, yeah yeah thurs nights are wicked!!! heard that theres a blinding dj there making his return this coming thurs downstairs called neal marsh or something, he's well fit!!! def got the cutiest arse in sheff, apart from bruce and da bouncer of course. Keep up the good work guys, me love ya long time!!!!! but not like that as my moneys on the marsh, yum yum!!!!!!!! XXXXXXXXX

This week we've teamed together with the Pearl Rockers for some Breakdancing and Body Popping.
The Pearl Rockers are without a doubt Sheffield's elite breakdancers/body poppers on the circuit.

Headlined by Electri'k they bring their art to Sheffield's Premier LGB Event for an evening of entertainment that's going to rock Takapuna to it's core. Along with Electri'k we're going to see some spectacular moves from: Estrada, Rubot and Flow

Come on down this Thursday and watch the Pearl Rockers do their stuff, and if you fancy learning a thing or two about Body Popping or Breakdancing, you can chat to the crew about their weekly classes.

How many people go to VIP at takapuna?

I've only really been to Climax on a regular basis.

I have been down ... but not for a while..... unfortunately it makes me feel not too well on a Friday at work... hangover etc... and plus I am always out on a Friday ... so Thursdays is a bad nite for me.... but I will pop down one Thursday nite for a couple of hours....

Oh my god how good were the Pearl Rockers last night !:D
It must be one of the best atmosphere's we've had at VIP since we launched.

These boys know their stuff that's for sure, and they did a blinding job in The Lounge.
We even had one of our VIP regulars get up and battled with the Pearl Rockers causing a massive cheer from the crowd when she showed them that even with no Breakdance Experience, she could put on a good performance.

We had a few enquiries after we left about how people could learn to do what the Pearl Rockers do, so for everyone else who's interested check this out (http://www.forumsheffield.co.uk/electricslide/).

I'm sure we'll see the Pearl Rockers on @ VIP again pretty soon for those who missed out, so you can see how good these guys really are.

Only popped on here for a min but I'll definatley let Electri'K know that you were pleased with their perfomance last Thursday.

They said they might come down again so all you people out there that want to see them again or for the first time say - YES! :clap:

He also told me to let you know that if you want to learn breakdancing or bodypopping get down to the Forum on Monday nights because he teaches his class there every week.

I have been working at Takapuna on Thursday nights for 3 weeks now and I just want to say that everyone I've met so far are really nice! It's a really chilled atmosphere - no tention at all and although I get bored sitting in that freezing booth :P it makes me warm inside to meet such friendly people! :)

(Kirk - any signs of an electric heater yet? :D )
