Watching the news today I see that the government are going to introduce Community Officers to work against anti-social behaviour. This is already if force in some areas.
As a 'victim' of anti-social behaviour I am in favour of anthing that helps but from past experience have found the Police to be pretty useless.
What are your views?

It looks to me like you are saying they are ineffectual. Saying you don't trust them implies you think they are dishonest.

From my own experience - yes
Although, I am by no way implying that all Police officers are corrupt.
As an ex police officer i trust some of them but not all, they are crying out for more bobbies but still bully people out of the job !!
Thats what happened to me. I enjoyed the job, but had no chioce but to leave. (long story)
it is a tough job, theres a lot of idiots out there.
I have lost all respect for the Police. I used to have lots of respect for them but, Events of the past four years have shown that our Police are turning bad. The regulations that they used to work under have been changed, The system of management has been changed. The system of todays Police is such that they are no longer Policing they are just glorified bullies. They try to make a drama out of most things in order to make the public think they are doing a good job. Maybe a few do. The Drug Squads, Murder Squads etc. Specialized policing. But when it comes down to community Policing then they are hopeless. The community wardens the untrained local Police, The local Bullies that want to wear a uniform and push their neighbours around. Well. I have no time for them at all. A simple example. I saw one taking the names and addresses of two young boys, He even searched them ( Against the law ). Their crime, Riding two to a bicycle. At the very same time. Two local smack heads walking down the road, Spitting and Swearing were ignored. I want to get back to old fashioned Policing, Old fashioned Prosecutions, Do away with Political Correctness, Do away with easy going open jails. Lets find something for the Politically Correct Brigade to do to stop them getting bored. Maybe they could go to Iraq and protect our fellow humans from the Americans.
I've had good experiences and bad experiences with the police, i've had police here in Sheffield ask me if im a student then hand me a leaflet and ask me to pass it onto my friends afterwards.
But they were pretty ineffective when I was at a house party which turned nasty and we had to call the police. That's more down to lack of resources though.
If we have cynicism towards everything and everybody that we meet, that will show in our attitude I think and may make the police wary of us!
I put my faith in the system and when it really needed to, it came through (another event). I trust them and admire their courage.
I don't trust them because of an incident which happened to my brother a couple of years ago. I won't bore you with the details because I think I've posted it before somewhere and it's a long story.
The Police are always being accused of racism, Maybe some of them are, But we do have a situation where race is being used as an excuse in most crimes. I agree they have a difficult job to do,, But, Depending upon where you live and who you are is part of the service or none service in some cases. I find that the Police are unsympathetic to anyone that exists on a list that they have of certain people. It is said that this list does not exist, I assure you it does. Anyone that has in anyway upset the police in the past are a target by them. Yes every occupation has it's fair share of criminals within it. But, Many young men and women join the Police Force because of the Power they have, Just the same as other jobs, Social Services, Child Care, Prison Services, Just to mention a few, Yes ! and Vicars, Have you ever heard of anyone being strip searched in public, NO. This would never happen, Or would it. One of the many nasty things that the Police do, It is called a " Short Cut ". A young man out on his 17 Birthday, Not Drinking, Close to the front door of his fathers home. He was stopped for no reason, He was searched, The officer went down his trousers ( say no more ) , But when asked why he did this by an investigating officer, He informed them that all officers did this, It was known as a short cut, Saves time taking anyone to the police station to search them. There are many incidents like this. Then we ask ourselves why the youth do not trust the Police. This particular youth, Never been in trouble with the police, Not on drugs at that time. Was pulled again some months later when he visited the area again. To cut a long story short. He was eventually arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Despite the attempts by someone close to persuade the police to take him to hospital. His drink had been spiked and he was hallucinating. The Police bundled him into a van and took him to the Police Station, He was confronted by the Officer that was accused of assaulting him. Saying no more on this subject. Despite there being some great Police Officers in the force, There is also some rubbish, Unfortunately they are all tarred with the same brush, Why ? Because the Police Police themselves, They stick up for each other. Anyone that offends an officer offends them all We must turn the clock back. Remember the old station sgts, and inspectors. Police officers were well disciplined then. They were public servants. The only people afraid of them were the criminals. Maybe they are disheartened by restriction placed upon them, But they have brought this upon themselves. Maybe they are disheartened at the leniancy and the corrupt and expensive defence solicitors that exist now. But, They need to work hard to regain the respect they once had. The Police have become too embroiled in politics and political correctness now. Many people have never had to deal with them, These people seem to think that all Policemen are great. Not the case I am afraid. If there were no criminals within the police force, Then this would be just a dream. It is a case that the Police must learn to deal with the scum and crime within the service. The biggest Majority of the Police Force are stained by the minority, We have seen many cases in the news. It would be great to see none.
I used to think highly of the Police, my opinion is slowly changing over the last couple of days
Some delightful youths have decided to use my dads car as a trampoline and mess around in my mums garden.. Hours it took the Police to come round for details yet another seperate incident in a co-op where a young lad ran out of the shop with 4 cans of lager warrented two police cars, A van and a dog within minutes..
Possessions I can deal with but when it starts to put fear in my family then thats where I draw the line!
