I've fancied doing the Sheffield Canal to Broughton Lane then back up the Five weirs to Lady's Bridge. But I'm open.

Depends where we're walking to and from! It could be tricky for me to get there at a decent time straight from work. Didn't we do the Weirs and canal a couple of weeks ago? I'd do it again though - maybe go from the Meadowhall end, and walk into town. It's linear, but would make a change!

Didn't Rubydazzler suggest a nice stroll round Graves Park? Lets not forget that one, maybe in a couple of weeks time... we could of course make sure we end up at one of the many pubs on Chesterfield Road. ;)

Yes Willman, now the evenings are lighter, Thursdays seems to be our new regular evening walk! Usually kicks off about 6pm (ish), for a couple of hours.

Well if you did, thats where I`ll pick you up. I`ll be coming along Queens Road at 17.30, and I`ll pull in on the left just as the road goes round the corner (10 metres from the crossing!)

The word on the street is that the footbridge at the back of Aldi is to be closed imminently for replacement.

I am going up that way now so will make sure its still open.

The bad news is that the bridge over to the canal at the end of the retail park is going to be closed until at least June. :(

The good news is that it is still open until Monday, so we are OK for this evening! :)

Good turnout tonight, and a bit of excitement too!
10 people present who were ItIsNow, Scubz, Karen19, Kristian, Meaks, Feargal, Neoteric, Taxman, Albert T Smith and non-forummer Lucy on her first walk. Oh and Paddy the dog!
2 part walk, the first being the intended walk from Tinsley locks to Canal basin from where 3 brave (or foolhardy) souls made their way back to Tinsley along the slightly longer 5 Weirs Walk.
It was a really nice evening, with both the canal and the River Don being a lot more picturesque than they were a few weeks ago, thanks to there being a lot more greenery now. The Wentworth pub near the Arena was a lovely place to stop near the end of the walk too.
And the excitement? We had to call 999 on the way back when a small fire that we came across on the bank of the Don, quickly turned into a large and dangerous bushfire.
A worker from a laundry company next to the river had started the fire with a discarded cigarette, and there were all sorts of commotion as non-english speaking workers who we had dragged out of the laundry place ,made a pigs ear of trying to put it out by using the wrong fire extinguishers. Is there ever a boring walk these days?

A laundry with no water.Who'da thunk it? :confused: Strangest laundry I've ever come across.

Apart from that - fab walk.The walkway will be lovely when the clematis grows all the way over the archway.See you tomorrow,folks.:)

No, we continued the walk in another direction, via the Harlequin, Kelham Island Tavern and Gardeners Rest.. :D

Although I guess you could call it lost.

Funnily enough, our walk in Woodhouse this evening ended in a call to the fire brigade too :rolleyes:

We didn't hang around to see if any of the teenagers who'd been feeding it actually got burnt in it, but it was big enough for them to have started leaping out of its way :suspect:

Brude and Hunny had a nice time on their walk to the meadow by the signal box, and we found a pair of Beagles to say hello to on the way back :D

Yes, a lovely walk - ideal for after-work! The canal is looking better each time I go down there, probably due to the recent tidy up, and the fact that all the greenery is covering a multitude of sins. :hihi:

As for the fire - well I'm glad I missed that. :o Well done on the fire-fighting.. brave and hardy souls these forummers!
