View Full Version : Mosborough Hall
Hi, can anyone help me? We're getting married in November and the reception is at Mosborough Hall. When we originally booked and paid the deposit last year we were told that they were having the reception and some rooms renovated and that the work would be completed by the end of this month. They haven't even started yet and we are now being told that the work begins in October and finishes in December!!!!! When we spoke to a florist at the weekend who may be doing our flowers, she told us to check out this website as she has seen quite a few people commenting on this work that's supposed to be going on at Mosborough Hall. I just wanted to ask, is this affecting anyone else?? Has anyone else had to speak to the hotel, or any hotel, about this?? All we keep being told is that it won't affect our wedding but they are not prepared to put this in writing!! Getting really worried, and frustrated! Thanks
Ours is 'meant' to be end of sept. we've booked all the rooms in the hotel as many of our guests are coming from a distance. Potentially we'll be spening some money there and they tell us work is due to start oct but all of it may be closed apart from the Function room and bedrooms when we get married. Their attitude (un-accommodating wedding coordinator) is they don't know so why should we expect to know. We've been tonight and she didn't know if ours was this year or next year and conveniantly could not recall we wanted our own DJ, we wanted our own live band (for an hour) and a bar extension. Just intrested in selling, signing for stuff etc. Thinking of ringing the manager tomorrow. Who did u speak to there ?
My partner spoke to a manager called Ian who has negotiated 10% off of the wedding breakfast, but only if the hoardings are still up when we get married or there's anything else there which will affect the wedding (we've been told that the work is taking place between Oct & Dec but he believes that, by the time we get married, it will only be internal work going on).
To be honest, not happy really that when we paid the deposit for the hotel last year, they couldn't sell it to us enough saying that the work is starting in January and finishing in April so it'll be fantastic (they must've forgotten to mention that the plans for the work hadn't been finalised)!
Well, the wedding is on Saturday and I'm sooooooo nervous!!! Still having the reception at Mosborough Hall and yep, the hoardings are still up and work is still being done (apparently they are ripping down the ceiling in the bar, within the hotel, this week)! Have to say though, the bridal suites have been refurbished (I think they used to have 4 - big rooms with huge beds but badly in need of a makeover - showers were holes in the wall and the sink cabinets were coming away from the wall)!! Well they have been done and they have 2 rooms - one room is done in light airy colours but with the original four poster in there. The other room (which we have opted for) is huge with a bath just sat in the middle of the floor and it looks great.
We did have a couple of other disputes with the hotel - we have 4 babies needing high chairs - the hotel told us that they only had 3 so we would have to bring one of our own (there are 80+ people going to the wedding breakfast alone)! Soon sorted that when we spoke to the Manager - we have been told that they will go out and buy another high chair. Also, we have someone with coeliacs (gluten intolerance) and we were asked to bring some bread for them as the starter is pate with brioche but another concern is that the soup and sauce for the main meal may be thickened with flour (something which people with coeliacs can't have) so we have left it with the hotel and explained that as we are paying for this persons meal, they need to make sure that they provide a meal which meets with their dietary requirements.
All in all, things seem to be going ok at the moment (which is scary in itself as things seem too easy)!
Hope everything does go ok - fingers crossed!!!

eeek thats something I have to look at too, I've also got a coeliacs at my wedding, shes also diabetic. Got a feeling anyplace I book will moan though as shes a child so not paying full adult rate anyway
That doesn't matter - at the end of the day, you tell them your requirements and they should provide food which is ok. To be honest, coeliacs and diabetes are fairly common illnesses so any chef who knows what they are doing, shouldn't have a problem with this.
Good luck :)
Wedding has gone now and its true what they say - the day flies past!!
On the day the hotel were fantastic - they had decorated the tables as we had requested and they looked beautiful. Pat (Wedding Coordinator) decorated our cake table so that it didn't look plain and all the candles were lit on the medieval wall.
The food was lovely and the staff were fantastic.
We did however have a some problems:
1) We had 70+ guests for the wedding breakfast and the bar area outside the main room was just too small. The bar inside the main hotel was closed for refurbishment and it was raining outside so there was no where else for people to go.
2) When the wedding disco had finished the bar outside the main function room was supposed to remain open for residents (due to the hotel bar being closed). However, this wasn't the case and when people went to this bar they were told it was closed and all the cash had been taken away from the till. I spoke to the person behind the bar and explained that it was supposed to remain open for residents and he came up with the solution of adding the charges to guests rooms which was agreeable so problem resolved.
3) This was the main problem - myself and my new husband were in the bridal suite with the bath on the floor in the room - we found out next morning when we went to use the bath that the room didn't have any hot water - we couldn't even have a shower. My husband went and told reception and we were given a key to another room on the other side of the hotel to shower in. This kind of spoilt things really as the day had gone so well and we have chosen that room based on the bath which we were looking forward to using.
Once we had showered and were ready to leave, we requested to speak to the duty manager who was very rude indeed - her response being that the reason we had no hot water was that it was merely an oversight and at least the rest of the hotel wasn't without hot water!
Due to her response (which angered us even more) we went away on our honeymoon on the Monday and attempted to contact the manager - 3 TIMES that week we called and were told that he was in a meeting every time but he did not respond to any of our messages left. We then left it with my husbands father who also attempted to contact the manager but he failed to respond again so we wrote to him.
2 weeks later, after no response to the letter / phone call, my father in law attempted to contact him again, spoke to him and the excuse he gave for not calling was that he had been on holiday!!!! We have arranged to go and visit him to sort out this mess but my point really is that this could so easily have been sorted out the day after the wedding but because of the lack of good customer service, this problem has escalated!
Shame really because the actual day was lovely and I would still recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of having a wedding here.
