On the back of the mini debate re Paula Radcliffe in 'Sport' I have ask if I am the only one who thinks what the National Lottery spends its money on is NOBODIES business but thier own.

We do not have any right to pass judgement on Athletes or projects that recieve Lottery Funding. It isnt accountable to us and is in NO way 'public money'.

So whats the problem??

Hang on...Lottery Funds not public money?

Surely the funds come from the money the public spends on lottery tickets?

I do believe that there are some questions that should be asked about lottery funds and how they're spent. Perhaps the bodies that determine where money gets spent should be more open about the reasons why certain projects are funded and others aren't.

I think the licence they have make it so the public do have some say in where the money goes.

They're not just a private company, they exist to help causes in need and as such it should be us - the public - who decide on those worthy causes.

Yes, buts its not 'public' in the way tax is.

My point is, people dont buy lottery tickets to give to charity, its purely a selfish thing, so I dont think anyone can 'moan' about what they spend the rest on.

I think while people do buy lottery tickets for the opportunity to win, they also buy them because they do want to benefit others.

Whilst it's nice to see athletes doing well from lottery funds, in many cases the athlete receives personal benefits that ultimately benefit one person the most - themselves. A donation from the Lottery to a charity dealing with, for example, the homeless or providing funds to a group to allow them to have a regular meeting hall would benefit larger numbers of people.

People have a right to see what the money that Camelot raise, in their name, is being spent on.

Not at all, I buy one purely to win the loot! IMO the disabled and the needy have too much and anyway most people in wheelchairs are not diabled, they're just very, very lazy people!!:o
