A walk will take place on the 29th April leaving The Old Harrow pub on Main Street at Grenoside at 10.45 a.m. and returning at around 3.30 p.m.
The walk will take us through Wharncliffe Woods and back along Wharncliffe Crags, and is not a difficult walk although it could be quite muddy if it has rained a lot beforehand.
For people arriving by bus, the no 66 leaves platform c4 of the Interchange at 10.15 and gets to Main Street at 10.35. I`ve not checked return times at this point, but I`m led to believe that they`re hourly.
On our return to The Old Harrow there will be the opportunity to enjoy a buffet meal, which we had last time and was excellent value for money, but exact numbers for this will have to be given to the pub 2 days in advance at the latest.

Hey thats ok Twinky1, I know you`d have come if you were able, we'll just talk about you thats all (nice things of course!)
There are about 7 people going already, but due to SF being down I don't think they`ve had chance to confirm yet. Taxman still can't post of course, but he`s told me that he`s definitely going. for one.

Put me down for this one - having heard a number of people wax lyrical about the buffet - both quantity and quality - I will just have to try this for myself. Oh yes and I will do the walk as well :)

Oh, and I'll mention it to Andrea too. We were only saying the other day that it's good leg-stretching weather!

The forecast doesn't look too bad for this weekend... maybe a bit overcast, but it beats sunburn, eh? :hihi:

Can't make it this time (I'm still trying to get my hips to work properly after the last one!) This particular Sunday I will be in Graves Park organising a sponsored walk for retired greyhounds - much more my pace really and no rock climbing! Have fun everyone and stoke up on that buffet!

I make this 9 definites for the walk (inc. Andrea), but 8 for the buffet, not including Albert T Smith or Grissom. Will you both advise one way or t`other if you`re coming so ItIsNow can order the buffet chaps. Ta.

Another great days walking - really felt that I earned my buffet and a pint at the end. Can't face ironing at the moment - perhaps I will pretend that my shirts are all non-iron ones :) .
I've uploaded photos of today's walk onto http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/GrenosideWharncliffeCragsWalk29thApril.
Unfortunately the number plate does not show - but take a look at his back :hihi:

I think that was possibly the nicest walk we have done so far! I enjoyed walking through the woods and then up on the top of the crags with the fantastic view, it was breathtaking! I cant believe ive never been to this place before! Great photos Neoteric, i cant remember it saying that on the back of the biker! :hihi:

Special thanks to Karen19 for the yummy cake, and to ItIsNow for the lift there and back. Oh and thanks to the staff at The Old Harrow too for the excellent food!

Lovely photos Neoteric, captured the mood of the day perfectly. If they don't influence new people to come along nothing will! On the ones where you've got the walkers on you can see how much fun we had today. Keep up the good work fella!

If we are going back into Greno woods on a Thursday eve It will have to be towards end of month as after this Thursday I'm on afternoons following 2. Great pics by the way I can now see what you was doing while I was ironing:)

Actually I meant a Saturday or Sunday walk, so we can take advantage once again of Matts fantastic buffet at the Old Harrow. Similiar walk to today, but off on those other paths that you know about. What about that Saturday when you can't get on the Sunday?

We could do it a week on Saturday but its not as far as we are now getting use to, I think a Thursday eve would be better cos the sunsets are fab off that view.

Sorry K19, but I`m obsessed with Matts buffet! Wonder if he'd do one on a thursday night lol?
Anyway, do you think ppl could get there ok at night? We'd have to make it 6.30 start I think, to give ppl a bit more time to get there. Anybody else think this is a good idea, with or without buffet?

we could leave it till June/July when it gets dark much later and there is always that great little chippy next to the Old Harrow would be good with a pint!

Ok K19, sounds fair enough. All this obsession with food though, do you think we ought to get the name changed to the Walking and Eating Group?

Aye it was a great walk again.. those lovely views, together with great walking weather (sunny, but not too hot, nice bit o' breeze) made for a great day out. It's definitely a good walk for anyone - you can easily make it as short (or long) as you like, with lots of well marked paths.

I love the idea of a sunset walk (featuring chips and pint ;) )

Yes I noticed the strategically placed chippy next door to the pub - not quite up to The Southern in Manchester where the chippy (t'chip oyle) is actually in the same building - but walking into the sunset with a pint and fish and chips - ahhhhh pure poetry.:)

Watch out for the funny opening hours (of the chippy). I think it's open Thursday, Friday but not Saturday evening. They are good fish and chips though!

Don't worry Robwillow it is all planned to be a Thursday evening when we have the lightest of nights so everyone can make it, just a bit later start than usual.
