Its no secret Longley shool has had problems and continues to do so but I am concerned the amount of teachers that have left or leaving.

Despite many teachers gone, some that were there 20 years plus at least another 7 are leaving at the end of term.
Now I don't want to be accused as scaremongering but as parents I have a gut feeling that something is not right.
Is this school re-opening in September....:suspect: I hope so.

Please be careful posting about the school they have spy watch. They observe parents internet activity.:suspect: And send you letters out to say u have been spotted posting on Sf.
I have my reservations on what will happen to this school. And a lot of parents are thinking the same.
I think your gut instinct may be right, either way it is a shame it was a great school when i was there. Now my son is i aint so sure.

So what..

I can discuss this or any school "freedom of speech " however, I am just concerned.
Now so far the parents are still in the dark.

There could be a variety of reasons why there appears to be a large turn over of staff.

As you mention the school is currently working through some problems and is now operating under a new Head who is in the process of turning it around.
Do you definitely know that a further 7 teachers are leaving or have you seen the jobs advertised at this school? All schools across the country are currently going through a period of restructuring where teachers who receive management points for additional duties are bring placed on a new pay structure called TLRs. If this is currently happening at Longley then the jobs have to be advertised, hence the appearance of people leaving, but there is every chance that the staff will continue their employment there.

Also, it could be that as part of special meaures and the need to address the identified problems, the staff are having to reapply for their own jobs.

The final possibility is that the staff are now under so much pressure from Ofsted, and HMI (Her Majesty's Inspectors) that they don't feel they can continue to work in this school with a poor work life balance.

Don't worry Paul, I'm confident it will turn out good, especially if parents can get behind the teachers and help engender a positive attitude among the children.

I was not having ago...i posted a thread about the school and got sent a letter saying they knew i had been posting about the school. And it aint procedure to post on net about any concerns with the school.
They also included a picture of me from my space in the letter.
But had actually posted the letter in my mums name not mine.
They obviously have some thing to hide if they are doing this.
The letter i got was off headteacher/school governers. I don't think that they agree with freedom of speech.

P.s. i totally agree with you, but am now cautious as to what i post seem they have a high interest and seem to moniter parents posts on the net.

Why not ask the LEA? Every teacher that decides to leave a school should have to fill in an exit questionnaire, as far as I am aware.

It is so easy to undermine something (anything) with a wrong word and it is so difficult to pull it back. The school is working extremely hard and I'm sure they would appreciate your support to help them pull through, otherwise it makes their job so much more difficult.

I'm with you on that Grahame,, personally I have nothing but praise for the teachers of my children, there really going out of there way to give him extra support.
Its just that I'm not having a go about the rights and wrongs of the school but I'm told that there are teachers leaving this July and recent history is that many have already left which sets off alarm bells that something may be wrong.
If there is, then parents should be made more aware of its future.
So far, there is cloak and dagger issues going on and I would like to know if my kids have a future at Longley School.

Paul.

Perhaps the changes are needed Paul? Can't say anymore though, but it won't be through lack of trying.

When I was at secondary school over 30 years ago we had a similar turnover of staff - and I was at a good Grammar School. In my 7 years at the school I reckon no more than 10% of the staff that were in post when I started were still there when I left.

Given that we're about 30 odd years on from a big expansion in people entering higher education (universities / polytechnics) then it's no real surprise that we have a lot of folk of that age group (50 plus) that are leaving (many with a damn good pension).

If you have a lot of agency / supply teachers I'd be inclined to worry.
