Ours is a bit 'unusual'. Makes comments about that post we get (had to sign for something to other day-"you're not a mrs. are you, it says mrs here " )

Will knock on the door with a parcel and then post the letters through once you've shut it, and if you're not in will hind the parcel.......somewhere.

whats the point of your post are you having a dig at all postman/women or do you actully have a point to make ?
its very easy to blame postman/women for everything thease days in fact there seems to be a forum jump on the postman/women band wagon of late.
you say some postman/women are enjoying the weather and why not they have to put up with rain/snow/wind ect so why carnt they enjoy a bit of sun ?
you say forgeting to close the gate did you see them do this ?
how do you know it was not kids or someone else calling or mayby you just did not close it right and it came open.
by posting next doors mail i am guessing you mean throu your post box well it happens if its all the time then complain to royal mail mistakes happen in all jobs !
also when your reg postperson is off on holiday or sick then yes your delivery wont be as good.
because odds are the person covering might be new or not used to that round or never been on it before.
as for junk mail we all get it most postpeople dont want to deliver door to door junk mail in most depos they dont have a choice.
if you dont like it opt out contact you sorting office for details.
and if you postperson looks fed up mayby there sick off been pulled to bits by people like you !!
remeber they have to deal with idiot dog owners who think its exceptable for there dog to attack them or brat children/teenagers and job dodgers giving them attitude all the time.
and if you post turns up after 12 bear in mind they prob left the sorting office late and your there last bag or it could be the second round they have done that day.
yes they are some people working for royal mail who are not great at there job and may be dishonest or have a bad attitude but you get that in all jobs and thease people get found out in time.
a lot of my mates work for royal mail if you wanting to know why i am sticking up for postpeople its about time they got support from people like you !
what do you do for a living ? shall we bitch about you job thats if you work .

As a former employee of Royal mail for 43 years - 24 of them as a Postman, and now retired, I say thank you for your comments. People who slag RM staff off should have a go themselves. It's a get up time of 3.30am for a start. As for the original poster of this thread saying they don't like the Postman because he brings bills - Postal staff must deliver what comes, so get a life.

I've noticed that recently the service has gone quite crap.
We have had our next door neighbours post a couple of times now and they have had ours.
It also seems like the post-man isn't even doing his round some days we have no post and don't see the post man doing his round.
I don't think this kind of behaviour has ever happened before.

Its not a lot just to pop next door and give them the mail it might even give people a chance to have a chat and get to know who lives next door??

Are you a short legged postperson by any chance?

I saw the postman open the gate, come down the drive post the wrong mail then leave without closing the gate. He then went nextdoor and scratched his head, span around in a circle and walked off. I would have told him but i was getting dressed.
I just thought it was funny so i posted it, he was a "norty postman".

People like me? i didn't do anything nasty to the postman, he made a mistake, i thought it was funny.

"going postal" eh.

my dads a postie, and I really do feel sorry for him, hes worked there for almost 30 years and its just got worse and worse, the poor service most of the time is due to the fact that most of the employees are no longer full time, they are part time kids with no or little training.

When dad first started out they had this big training deal that you dont cut across peoples gardens unless they say you can, you make sure the mail is pushed all the way through so if somone is on holiday then its not given away by the mail sticking out of the box, gates must be closed etc, now its just heres your bag off you go.

You try workin for RM, you would not believe the amount of stress that some employees have to go through for such a striaght forward job! I have only worked for RM for 4 years n since i've started I can see how the fat cats are running the firm into the ground. RM will fall into the hands of rivals soon, summat else that wont be English any more.

Off on a tangent springs to mind?!

Couple of points here.

I wasn't the OP and I have got a life as well as a sense of humour!

Its pretty common knowledge that Postmen and Royal Mail are merely a front for international gunrunning, illegal prostitution, Iranian weapons programmes, Global warming, extinction of the whale, sea lion pup culling and the diminishing content of the ten pence mix up - they simply do the odd misdeed of misdelivery and leaving gates open to keep our minds occupied as a distraction from the bigger picture

Hi, I'm just wondering if this is still the case. Given that the post now comes some time during the afternoon for most of us surely the working hours are more normal as a result - wasn't that the reason for the change of delivery times?

Hours used to be 0515-1230 when I was a postman 20 odd years ago; that said, from my experience, most postman would be back home shortly after 11am. (Not that the bosses ever knew, of course.... ;))

My hubby still leaves at 4.30am every morning and returns home after 2/3pm most days.

After he has been out and done his own walk, then gone back to the office to re-sort another walk to cover holiday leave to then go out in an Afternoon to be greeted with comments like, wheres my giro, what time do you call this etc.....

I wished i was at home to "see" my postman or women for that matter, forget to close the gate, or come late in the day!

I retired from Royal Mail at Christmas after 43 years. The reason for the lateness is that they are trying to get the same amount of mail out on one delivery instead of two. They are still very early starters, but I was told by my Postman last week that plans are afoot to have them start later. Around 8 I think he said. I suppose it will come. When I was a Postman I would never have believed that delivery staff would work a five day week, but they do now. The sixth day is covered by staff rotation.
