View Full Version : Which Coast for the day?
Hi,
My girlfriend and I are planning a day to the coast maybe tomorrow if the weather is nice.. (dunno about that like) but which coast would you recommend going to? something close, not further than blackpool though! I can only really think of Skeggy or Blackpool, for things to do....which one would you choose?
Thanks
What about a bit further North?? Somewhere like Bridlington, Scarborough or Whitby??
Agent Orange 20-04-2007, 07:28 Erm, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to going to the seaside and try and avoid the horrid, naff resorts such as Skeggy and Blackpool. I tend to go to places like Whitby etc which are more pleasant :)
susiepoosie 20-04-2007, 07:30 Scarborough is lovely although Whitby is historically a bit more interesting! Enjoy wherever you go and hope it's nice and sunny for you :D
Scarborough without a doubt, Winking Willies fish and chips for lunch:)
Scarborough or Whitby every time. Towns with decent architecture & proper cliffs!
BasilRathbon 20-04-2007, 08:49 The East Coast has an annoying habit of being dull and misty at this time of year while everywhere else is sunny. That said, Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes are excellent for the more discerning visitor.
Alternatively, if you go west you'll need to go further than Blackpool if you don't like naff resorts. The Cumbrian Coast resorts of Arnside and Grange Over Sands are small but very pleasant.
Nabsdabs1@ti 20-04-2007, 08:58 Personally i dont care too much for the knotted hankie type seaside areas but much prefer a bit of tranquility, therefore i suggest that you take your good lady to holyhead on anglessay, try a visit to the south stack which is breathtaking with proper massive cliffs abundant wildlife and if you are lucky there are usually lots of very inquisitive grey seals swimming close to shore, it is probably the closest thing to scotland for making you feel very small in a very big place. have fun wherever you go:D

I was in Anglesey a couple of weeks ago and agree - spectacular scenery. Some of the little bays around there are beautiful too - we stayed at a campsite near Lligwy Bay, reputedly the finest on the island.
NEKRO138 20-04-2007, 09:33 East coast bitches!
johnbradley 20-04-2007, 09:35 bridlington is very nice on a sunny day...the beach is lovely in parts.

Anglesy? Grange? Arnside?
Getting to Anglesey is pretty straightforward and only takes about three hours by car. Head for Manchester, then turn left and follow the signs. You can't miss it. (You'd end up in the Irish Sea if you did).

Anglesey's only a three hour drive. That's relatively close.

I wouldnt want to spend a week in a seaside resort, but they are great for a fun day out:)
Tanya T 1 20-04-2007, 09:54 Whitby for me!!!

Not it isn't. Its 150+ miles away. Its a six hour round trip (if you get a decent run). Not something I'd fancy for a day trip. All of which is by the by, as the OP stated that they wanted somewhere no further than Blackpool.
Anglesy is about 50 miles and 1 hour further than Blackpool.
sparklygem 20-04-2007, 10:10 Bridlington or Scarborough, those places are nice :D
i always end up going to cleethorpes tho :hihi:
Scarborough for me, although I do have a soft spot for Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe.
Only cos Mablethorpe has better Arcades than Cleethorpes, the machines are about 10 years out of date there apart from the one on Alexandra Road which has the Star Wars Trilogy machine from 2001.
Nabsdabs1@ti 20-04-2007, 10:14 trearrdur bay is very nice on anglessay we go there every year, theres a brilliant campsite there thats sooooo cheap with loads of space, the pathway down to the lighthouse is something to behold and well worth a visit but not for the faint hearted though
