View Full Version : Midweek daytime walkers?
sheffminxy 19-04-2007, 19:18 Hi Guys
I was just wondering if anyone who doesn't work full-time would be interested in starting a midweek daytime walkers group, I myself work only part-time and do tend to waste my days off sitting around doing nothing, it'd be nice to get out and about
anyone interested?
Hiya,
if you or anyone gets a group together i would be interested as although i'm a full time worker i work to a shift pattern that throws up weekday rest days, which means working every other weekend which is the main reason for me not attending any group walks so far unfortunately...... much to my annoyance :(
i've followed the walks in spirit and am pleased with the effort's of the people taking part so keep it up and well done :hihi:
Ginger_Kitty 20-04-2007, 21:02 I'm generally free weekdays while i'm unemployed (:() but not up to huge long walks, a couple of leisurely miles will do me... im out at chesterfield though so might join you if you arrange anything out this way :)
sheffminxy 21-04-2007, 16:10 Hi Niklek
I will be sure to let you know if I manage to get a group together :)

Did you manage to get this off the ground ? I would be very interested too .
Please let me know, I too work only part time and would love things to do of an afternoon
I shall shortly be joining the ranks of the unemployed :) and would be more than happy to help get this off the ground, if you need any help in numbers, but this won't be until June
Ginger_Kitty 13-05-2007, 19:41 I'm still up for things... but gimme a few weeks to get my ankle working again!!
I'll join in for walks on the peak side of sheffield and the peak dist nearby :)
I'd like to add though, i'm not one for group walks, so just joining up with one or two people for a leisurely wander is more for me...
Add my name to the pool of people who would be interested in uncrowded walks - though anybody meeting up with us would have to be prepared to share the air space with reminders to a beagle that he's not out on a walk on his own :P
Is Graves Park near enough for you em? I think the footpaths are suitable for one of those too-lazy-to-walk chariots ;)
Ginger_Kitty 16-05-2007, 15:18 it might be, and there's some good archaeology in there too ;)
I'm jsut off crutches and waddling freely at the mo, just not far or for long... gimme another week or two ;)
i'll try and sort something out for after the bank holiday.
an easy leisurely walk is long the footpath from fox house, i think it runs parallel with burgage.
very easy underfoot, and a good couple of miles there and back.
start and finish @ fox house, who do broccoli & salmon fischcakes that are ace.
they don't allow dogs though willman :(
Ginger_Kitty 16-05-2007, 16:16 there's always graves park one day and fox house another?
well let us know when your ankle is up to it and we can get somthing organised
Ginger_Kitty 16-05-2007, 16:24 will do ;)
i do start part time work tomorrow too so my time is more limited, but am still up for midweek walks in between :)
*makes mental note to avoid bossier members of the walking group* :suspect:

well some of the staff are rough enough to qualify:hihi:
if you do Graves park let me know, i'll bring the runt with me.

You can eat or drink outside the foxhouse.
I'm free during the week and would love to start walking more often, I have no transport so that could be a problem but I do know some great walking routes that i would be willing to trade for a lift out:D (that and some petrol money of course)
I don't think we pass 'cloud cookoo land' on our way ;)
is there somewhere else you could be picked up from?
Thanks for the welcome please do:)

Great, I live next to one of the start points to the sheffield round walk if that interests anybody?
count me out for a few weeks.
severe damage to anterior ankle ligaments, broken 5th metatarsel and a foot so swollen i cant even get a flip flop on my foot.
bed rest, followed by no driving for a week (so no work).
That sounds nasty Willman. :(

What some people will do to get out of coming to gleadless:hihi:
Hope it gets better quickly:)
I can sympathise with you willman - I did my 5th met in Nov - in pot for 10 weeks, and off work for 18 - only just getting back to some sort of normality.

During the coming months I intend to do the complete ' Sheffield Countryside walk ' during the mid-week. The walk is approx 50-60 miles long. I'm intending to complete short sections of it using public transport mainly from to get to the start and leave at the finish point.
When I'm ready I will post on the site and anyone able to walk the 5 - 8 mile planned sectors will be welcome to join me.
Whilst walking the route I will be making a video film of the walk.
tamarindl 27-05-2007, 09:20 Tuesdays are my scheduled day off and always interested in new walks for myself and Adelaide. Only have access to car when hubby isn't at work or on nights. We're in Walkley but can walk as far as Encliffe Park (in any direction) as a start point.
