I went to the cav the other night and found it very enjoyable however from the posts i've seen on her there seems to be a few mixed opinions.

Whats every1 elses opinion?

i think its very studenty!! Dont like it much

I quite like it there too... but there again i often find myself liking places that other ppl dont lol maybe i have strange taste... Who knows....

ie: In Bournemouth i loved this fun pub called Berlins 80's music cheap drinks fab atmosphere... I really used to enjoy myself in there... Loads of ppl used to slag it off... Same as Jumping Jacks but never got to go in there :( bet that would have been good too :lol:

I hate that place with a passion - takes ages to get served, can't hear yourself think for the music and the decor alone makes you want to hurl.

Well if your after student totty music and company then it should suit you...

When @ uni, one of my fave pubs was a `Scream bar`.

Personally only used the Cavendish when they used to host a comedy club with Toby Foster as compere.

Otherwise not bothered thanks...

There are much better pubs in Sheff...

well i enjoyed it! i'd recomend it but can see y people wouldn't like it.

I am a massive fan of The Cav. I went there frequently as a student and still love the place. It is always clean, busy and has very quick service.

I'm not a great fan of the cavendish but the Globe (which is another scream pub) is great. Its got the most fantastic juke box ever! The canendish is just too busy and noisy.

U just can't beat sitting outside at the cavendish in the summer getting leathered on a sunday!!!!!!

I absolutely despise Scream pubs. They only cater for those who want drink beer or alchopops - give me All Bar One anyday.

The Cavendish does what is does well.

It is a lively bar full of students taking full advantage of their yellow discount card.

However if you aren't a student the drinks are full price, there's no decent ale, and you probably won't pull if you aren't a student.

However non-students do go in, either to play pool or just be somewhere busy. For example on a Monday night, everywhere round there other than the traditional boozers are dead. Except the Cavendish, which is full of students drinking cut price booze....

Mind you, All Bar One is boring, pretentious and has a very uninspiring beer range.

That's not to say it's a bad bar though.

And which pubs/bars you enjoy often depends on the mood - for example mid week I tend to want a comfy pub where I can chill out with a decent pint of real ale. At weekends I tend to go to lively bars with music and eye-candy.

Why do you think All Bar One is pretentious?

Just making the same kind of sweeping generalisation..... it's 'that' kind of a bar.

All the chain bars are the way they are for very good reason - a vast amount of money has been spent aiming them at the chosen target group.

If you dont like a particular chain - they're just not targeted at you!

I wouldn't say it's pretentious, but why does it always feel so much like a board meeting is taking place in there? All those suits and talk of projected figures - not my idea of a good time. Ha Ha Bar is along similar lines but is a very much more enjoyable experience IMHO.

Cavendish is ok, along with Varsity. they can get a bit busy tho on a weekend! The cheap shots are the best thing... followed by the cheap women

My favorite pub when I was at uni was a scream pub but the Cav has a herd mentality. The lucky get crammed into seating and q for ages to get served. It trends to be ram packed with people inted on drinking too much

I have'nt been to the Globs but it looks worse.

Its not such a bad place. I have to agree with Zippyz, the Juke Box is brill in there :clap:

GLOBE excellant, small and intimate atmosphere..noisy yes, but very cosy feel to it.

CAVENDISH.....HELL ON EARTH....AVOID

Personally the Cavendish is my idea of hell. Don't like the atmosphere - or rather, it doesn't really seem to have an atmosphere. Also the students who congregate in there seem to be of the brain-dead rugby-playing Freshers variety. Even when I was a student I avoided the place like the plague!

dont like it as andy c post theres yellow discount card we used to go all time when asked bar staff bout getting one of these cards they said discount is only for students so if not student you pay full price which in my eyes is discrimmation

Not a fan myself. When I first came to Sheff, the yellow card was free and gave you cheap beer. Now the yellow card costs a pound and makes beer normal price. Without the card, beer is way over priced. What a scam! they must make thousands on the sale of yellow cards.

I love All Bar One. It's over 21's only, food is great (although the veggie menu has decreased), music doesn't drown out conversation, people are smart and friendly and you never get any bother. Also... the staff are always super nice, which is a bonus for a bar these days! I'm not one of these fancy pants type people who like to (or indeed can) flash the cash an' all but I've always felt really comfortable and relaxed in there. More comfortable than amongst the look you up and down, fashionista brigade that you find in sola, halcyon, muse et al

Went Cavendish last night and one of bar staff charged me 8.90 for a vodka red bull, shortchanged me a fiver and when I complained to manager I was threatened out on my ear!!! Bar staff thieves and pocketing money!
