Ive heard rumours....but not been past for a while...is it still open?? am I missing anything??? I've never been in!

Yes, as far as we are aware the Empire Bar (http://www.sheffieldpub.co.uk/pubs/city-centre/empire-bar/) has closed until further notice. We heard a rumour that it's going to be demolished to make way for the new redevelopment of the Moor (http://www.moorsheffield.co.uk).

thanks for the info........it's part of my pub quest to visit every bar/pub in sheff and if its gone it saves me the trouble of visiting!

Apparently it's been taken over.
It's going to be reopened as The Tube, a late indie rock bar. Hurray!

I remember when Empire first opened. You had to dress smart, were very strict on not letting in underage kids, didn't allow large groups of lads....it was brill!

Went back a few years later, you could wear whatever you wanted (even baseball cap), were tons of underage drinkers and large groups of thugs...sorry I mean lads...in other words...a bag of ****.

I went past today and they were busy painting it black:headbang:

Its looking pretty damn smart too! The rumors are true. Empire will shortly be re-opening as Tube catering for all that's live, rock, indie, goth etc....As will the Fez club to be re-named Rebels. Watch this space for full info coming soon.

A dive of a place. The sooner it's demolished the better. I agree with what has already been said, always full of dodgy characters that looked like they'd spent their dinner money on crack.

Can tell you've got your finger on the pulse.....it's been closed since the end of Feb and is being re-fitted and opening up as something completly different. If you bothered to read the rest of this thread you'd have noticed that.
