View Full Version : Laser eye surgery
Jazzybmzoo 18-04-2007, 15:35 Ey-up guys,
I'm going for this on Friday and am well looking forward to not having to wear ******* glasses or c/lenses for a very long time. Fingers crossed.
Has anyone else had it done & what were/are your thoughts?
Many thanks.
(Apparently, i'm to see a Dr Han Solo...hope he knows what he's doing...:o )

Blade1983 18-04-2007, 15:45 you being a wednesday fan i'd advise against improving your vision!
:hihi:
There is some general information on laser eye surgery at http://www.guidetolasereyesurgery.com/.
swordfish1 18-04-2007, 15:57 My missus had it done and she's never looked back (a bad pun!!)
She had it done about 8 years ago and says it's the best money she's ever spent. Good luck mate. Didn't hurt her THAT much (well, she went back for the second one to be done!!). Glad my eyes are OK...I'd have mine done if they were bad with absolutely no reservations.

i know someone who has had it done and yes it does make a difference, but it all depends on what your eye sight is like to start with or if you suffer from diabetes? the person i know does and has had 32 lots of laser on both eyes the more you have the more painfull it gets, he now has to have his eye blocked before having treatment
alchresearch 18-04-2007, 19:06 From what I've read, a small percentage of people get permanent blurred vision that can't be corrected.
And from what I've seen, the Ultrlase ad with Jonathan Edwards is a big con because I saw him on BBC News a couple of months ago wearing glasses.
I'd only go with this if I really wanted to be free from glasses and couldn't wear contact lenses.
Ive thought about this a few times and looked into it and I think in the future I may well have this done.
Let me know how you get on .. Im quite interested.
Which laser treatment are you having? In Sheffield or are you going to Leeds or Manchester?

Haa, haa, haa! Yeah, nice one. :)
I'm going for the 'IN TECHNOCOLUR' treatment so my wonderful Hillsborough will become even more sentient to me. I'll also apparently feel like i'm in a 1950's Western for the first week or so!

It's with Optical Express and the treatment is Wavefront with Intralase [shrugs shoulders]. The clinic is in Nottingham, although there is one in Leeds too.
Jazzybmzoo 19-04-2007, 09:01 how much does it cost?
Well it's a bit of marketing skank to actually get you in there "From only £395 per eye!" is only if your eyes are near perfect in the first place. It goes by how bad your prescription is. The worse your eyesight, the longer you are under the laser, the more expensive it is.
I went for the more expensive option, not because I have bundles of cash (for I most certainly haven't) but because I am defo not prepared to compromise when it comes to the old eyes. Straight in and out with minimum fuss, thank you very much - £3k.
Me mother had a bit of a go when I told her, complaining that it was too expensive etc, but you attribute value to services (& goods) that are relevant to you. Personally speaking, i'd rather have perfect eyesight (fingers-crossed) for the rest of my days than spend that money on say an average spec car or kick-arse holiday or night with a Michelle Marsh wearing nowt but a SWFC shirt.
OK, maybe not the last one.
Anyway guys, wish us luck and i'll let you know how I get on next week...if I can see the keyboard.
I'm sure you won't regret it.
All the best Jazzy!

They can only correct on sought of vision though, my mum had it done for short sightedness, but still wears galsses for reading.
Ask lots and lots of questions and get them to do as many checks as possible. They did my mum, then later discovered she had keritakonis (sp?) which is made worse my laser eye surgery and she now just has to *hope* you won't go completely blind :( Obviosuly, this is not somehting she would have known about, its not her job, but they should. Needless to say, the company involved were heavily delt with.
Vicki
good luck with it :D
i have appallingly bad eyesight, but am cautioned on having my eyes lasered for the pure fact that if it was that safe and that successful, most opticians/optometrists (whatever their title) would all have it done and you would never see one wearing specs.
if the laser work isnt successful, i was told id be unable to wear contacts again ... and there is no way id want to wear my specs all the time :(
Jazzybmzoo 19-04-2007, 11:11 I'm sure you won't regret it.
All the best Jazzy!
Cheers Al!
This is me  :help:
Hey, I had the Wavefront treatment on Saturday too (in Leeds though). How are you getting on?
My eyes we tested on Sunday morning and I was already above driving standard. Slightly blurry every now and again, but not painful in the slightest.
Hopefully that will improve with a bit more healing time.
Mine wasn't quite as expensive as yours though - but still a far cry from what they advertise. But like you, I wanted the best you can get, would rather have a cheap car and decent eyesight than a flashy motor!
Best of luck in your recovery.
Whatif wewin 19-04-2007, 12:20 Jazzy I hope it goes well, who's Michelle Marsh though?

Thank you. Well, What if - if the lasers don't blind you, this will. (http://www.michelle-marsh.com/portfolio/?album=Portfolio_Gallery)
Some say she's cheap I say she's a very beautiful young woman...who is obviously begging for it.
Mixwicks 19-04-2007, 13:37 good luck with it :D

That's not true. I wouldn't have risked if it was:hihi: . It changes the shape of your eye so you there would be restricted to wearing certain types of contacts but it wouldn't mean you couldn't wear them at all.
As for opticians not having it done - well some have if you do your research - but remember they make A LOT of money selling specs, so they are going to want to promote spec wearing aren't they. There is a huge profit margin on specs, it's big business.

A quite beautiful synopsis, Mix. :)
Nabsdabs1@ti 27-04-2007, 09:49 What is wrong with wearing glasses anyway ? Are you calling me spekky four eyes then ??:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: Best of luck hope it goes well for you
TheBlueDragon 27-04-2007, 10:16 I was offered lazer eye surgery free on the NHS, but I turned it down. I dont like the idea of a lazer shooting into my eyes.
I may change my mind someday as they said I just have to tell them when Im ready
I had it a couple of years back now and am really happy with the results.
On the way out of the operating theatre I jokingly shouted "AAARGH, MY EYES"! The other people waiting for the surgery were not amused!
